It’s been quite the half-decade journey for Alicia Meier.

The founder and CEO of Textile Apparel, a retail clothing store in downtown Kelowna, is getting ready to celebrate her store’s five-year anniversary this weekend.

Meier called the growth of her business a “made-in-Kelowna success story,” a testament to her vision of bringing natural goods made with integrity to her hometown.

“What I didn’t expect is to grow the business through a global pandemic, wildfires and the ongoing state of emergency related to the opioid crisis that has affected so many.”

But while other Kelowna retailers have shut their doors or moved out of the downtown core, Textile Apparel has stayed put.

Meier, who has been honoured by the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce with a Top 40 Under 40 award, says she embraces the importance of a vibrant town centre.

“I was born and raised in Kelowna and this is where I live, work and play,” she explained. “Building a business here simply makes sense.”

To thank the community for its support over the past five years, Meier and Textile Apparel will host a celebration event to mark the anniversary.

“Our team is grateful for the support of everyone in Kelowna, so we thought a celebration was in order,” noted Meier.

“We’ll have some sweet treats and remarkable discounts for one day only as well as pop-up shops with Cake for Breakfast and Carolily Jewelry.”

The festivities will take place at Textile Apparel, located at 1579 Pandosy St., from 10 am until 5 pm on Saturday, April 27.
