An exciting new opportunity for children who want to learn their way around a kitchen is coming to Kelowna.

Little Kitchen Academy (LKA), a Vancouver-based Montessori-inspired cooking school for kids aged 3-18, is expanding to the Central Okanagan.

Construction will begin soon on the new LKA Kelowna location in Orchard Plaza, with enrollment expected to open in early August and the school to follow in the fall.

Paul Larsen and his wife Susan are the ones behind the school’s new Kelowna location, and this news comes shortly after Paul sold his Kelowna radio station, CKOV-FM, and wrapped up a three-decade career in media.

“We were searching for an authentically purpose-driven opportunity for our next venture and when I found Little Kitchen Academy in 2019, my whole family was excited,” he explained.

“My wife Susan and I truly resonate with LKA’s mission to change children’s lives by developing confidence and independence through three-hour Montessori-inspired cooking classes and we can’t wait to introduce LKA to families in the Okanagan.”

The LKA mission is just that, to empower children with practical life skills and food literacy to help them create a more educated, mindful and healthier global community.

Co-founder Brian Curin says it’s been amazing to see families embrace LKA in Vancouver, North Vancouver, East Vancouver, Richmond and Surrey.

“The enthusiasm that Paul and his family have for Kelowna and their desire to have an impact on children in the area is wonderful,” Curin explained.

“We can’t wait for them to welcome the first students into their kitchen this fall and give parents and caregivers a much-needed break with our three-hour classes!”

Parents, families and local schools that are interested in LKA Kelowna are encouraged to sign up for email updates to take advantage of priority early enrollment.
