Everyone loves snapping a great picture, but gaining notoriety and recognition as a professional photographer is no easy feat.

Not many people know that as well as Landon Hemmes, a Kelowna photographer who has spent several years building his brand through his stunning work.

You’ve likely seen his photos on social media, hanging in local businesses and homes, or featured in publications like our own.

Now, through what he calls “a culmination of nearly a decade of dedication and hard work,” Hemmes has taken his biggest step yet.

He’s ready to welcome the public into his own brick-and-mortar space, a gallery and studio in central Kelowna that will be home to all things to do with Landon Hemmes Photography.

“The Okanagan has been asking to see my work under one roof for a while now,” Hemmes told KelownaNow. “It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized for my passion and craft.”

Hemmes has been featured in five international publications, has received several local awards and, while you may know him more for his stunning shots of the Okanagan, has more than 50 weddings under his belt.

He said he’s proud to call the Okanagan home and loves showcasing the region’s beauty to the world through his lens.

“I am eager to continue sharing my art and expertise with others,” he added. “This studio and gallery is where I will teach, create and showcase my work, and I can't wait to share this journey with the community.”

Hemmes called opening the space, which he has been hard at work transforming over the past few weeks, a dream come true, adding that he can’t wait to show it off to fellow Kelowna residents.

The space is now open at 1195 Sutherland Ave., across the street from Capri Centre, and Hemmes will host a grand opening celebration today.

The festivities will last from 11 am until 9 pm, with music, snacks and beverages to keep the party going all day long.

If you’re looking to book Hemmes for a shoot, purchase a print of one of his iconic Okanagan landscape shots or even just talk photography with the man himself, he encourages you to come visit.
