It has been an incredible few months for Kamloops indie-rock quartet, Van Damsel. In the last little while, they’ve seen themselves selected as a top 20 artist in this year’s Peak Performance Project and released a single, “August”, which saw them win a $5,000 video grant from Public Records and TELUS. As some of you will know, the band can often be found playing gigs in Kelowna, and they’ve appeared in this column a number of times. I’m a big fan of their sound. I think they deserve all the opportunities that are currently coming their way.

Van Damsel is Mark Ste Marie (vocals, guitar, keys), Matthew Rennehan (bass), Matthew Barron (drums) and Richard Bregoliss (guitar).Van Damsel released their debut EP, Say Hello To Your Mother, in the summer of 2010. They’ve since followed that up with the release of two singles, “The Sunshine, Girl” and “August” both of which will appear on their upcoming full-length record, Bad Faith. Both “The Sunshine, Girl” and “August” have an infectious summer surf vibe to them and it’ll be interesting to hear the rest of Bad Faith when it is released in 2014. By the way, if you haven’t seen the video for “The Sunshine, Girl” yet, I encourage you to give it a watch.

Earlier this month at Keloha, I sat down with the band’s rhythm section, Matthew Rennehan and Matthew Barron, to talk about the Peak Performance Project, Public Records Grant and a whole bunch more. Check it out…

You can find Van Damsel on Facebook and from there you can find links to their music and more.
