Funk/folk rock quintet, Wild Son, are set to release their debut full-length album tomorrow.

Regular readers of this column will know that I’ve been excited about the Kelowna band for a number of years now (I’m not the only one). In fact, my very first Hear in Kelowna article was about the prodigiously talented group - that was way back in early 2012!

In the time since, the band have continued to develop, progress and hone their groove-infused sound.

Wild Son is Kieran McCaffrey (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Aaron DeSilva (bass), Mitchell Howanyk (violin, mandolin), Eric Disero (keys) and Cam Wilks (drums).

Listen to “Where Will You Go” by Wild Son:

Wild Son originally planned to release their debut album, a self-titled record, this past May, and it has been years in the making, so it’s no surprise that McCaffrey admits to feeling mixed emotions ahead of the big release, revealing: “[I feel] nervous and excited at the same time. This is a huge step in the right direction for us. We are excited to get the record in the hands of our fans…”

To celebrate the release, the band are putting on an album release party at Habitat tomorrow evening (Friday, December 4th). My Kind of Karma are opening the show. It’s sure to be an excellent gig! As a little thank-you to their fans, Wild Son have decided to make it a free event. Bassist, DeSilva, explains further: “Our fans are amazing and helped us raise over $10,000 towards the recording and production of this album. We feel that leading up to the holiday season can be tight, so we decided to thank everyone by throwing a free event.”

Here’s another song that you’ll definitely hear at tomorrow’s show… “Whipped Cream” from Wild Son:

And if you’ve ever wondered what the Wild Son boys do for ‘mild fun’, McCaffrey spills the beans:

“We have a weekly family dinner in which we rotate as chefs, we attend other members’ shows as we all have separate musical endeavors [as well], Mitch likes to ride his Honda into the sunset, Aaron likes to toss himself into fresh powder, Cam likes to cut wood, Eric is huge into photography and I like to build/create. We’re a fun group that all live under one roof as a quirky family.”

Wild Son’s debut album will be available for purchase on vinyl or dropcard at tomorrow’s party, or through various online sites (visit Wild Son’s official website for further details).

Doors for Wild Son’s album release show at Habitat open at 8pm tomorrow evening, and again, there’s no cover, so you’ll want to arrive extra early for this one!
