Back in April, we reached out to our readers for help in naming the best of the best people, places and businesses in Kelowna.

In May, we tallied your nominations and came up with a list for you to vote for your favourites in each category.

In June, we counted the votes and celebrated those who reached the podium at our Best of Kelowna party.

Now, we want to celebrate Best Of Kelowna year-round!

This bi-weekly series will showcase the top three winners of select categories and give you some facts about them to help you gain familiarity with who Kelowna voted as the top dogs in their respective fields.

Best of Kelowna: Tourist Attraction Outside City Limits

One of the best things about living in Kelowna is having easy access to all of the great areas surrounding it. We love our local businesses, we truly do, but sometimes a little day trip to a fun attraction in one of the surrounding towns is just what you need to complete the perfect weekend or staycation.

If you’re looking to take a little out-of-town adventure, check out these three medalists for the Best Tourist Attraction Outside the City for Best of Kelowna 2017, as voted by you!

Gold: Starlight Drive-In Theatre

Located in Enderby, the Starlight Drive-In has won its first Gold in the Best of Kelowna this year. A favourite attraction to more than just the North Okanagan, the Drive-In brings back the classic experience of watching a movie from your own vehicle.

With a double nightly feature and new movies each week, the Starlight Drive-In brings in guests from all over and is definitely worth the experience. Grab snacks from their old fashioned concession, bring some blankets and enjoy a movie on the big screen from the seat of your car!

Silver: Big White Ski Resort

A staple of the Kelowna area, Big White Ski Resort is known internationally for its incredible ski hill. Whether it’s summer or winter, Big White is full of activities, fun and outdoor adventure.

An 11 time Best of Kelowna winner, Big White Ski Resort is recognized as being one of the best staycation spots outside of the city. Just an hour drive from downtown Kelowna, Big White has something for everyone, from biking in the summer to skiing and snowboarding in the winter. It’s no wonder so many locals adore this place.

Bronze: Tickleberry’s Ice Cream and More

Located in Okanagan Falls, Tickleberry’s was started by a husband-wife duo who fell in love with the area and decided to open up their very own ice cream parlor. Making their own chocolates, fudge, kettle korn and serving more than 50 flavours of ice-cream, it’s a hot commodity on Highway 97.

With treats galore, Tickleberry’s is the perfect place to visit on a day trip, especially when your sweet tooth is calling. As you enjoy an ice cream cone you can also enjoy the nearby beaches and beauty of the area. As a four time Best of Kelowna medalist, you can trust why the locals love venturing out of town for the tasty treats at Tickleberry’s.

These out of town attractions are well trusted by locals. We don’t mind leaving our beautiful city every now and then when it means visiting beloved places like these! Congratulations to all of the nominees, finalists and medalists, and a huge thanks to everyone who voted.
