Trail: Black Mountain Drive Trail

Trail Distance: Unknown

Trail Difficulty: Moderate

Directions:

This hike is located in the Black Mountain area of Kelowna. Follow Highway 33 and turn left on Black Mountain Dr. Just after Lund Drive, you will see the trailhead along the right. At the moment, there is a great gravel parking area on the left just past the trailhead.

Description:

There is something about the 'uncommon' trails that draws me in. The trail up in Black Mountain is just that! Finished in 2013, this trail is still yet to have a name but should not be unnoticed!

From the parking area, we walked across the street to begin the trail. First, the trail starts with wooden steps to help climb up the steep hill. Soon, we realized there are quite a few steps, 322 to be exact!

After working our way up all the stairs and finally making it to flat ground, we came to a fork in the trail. The left trail is actually another access point from the houses below in Blue Sky. The right continues on the main trail to the 'view loop.'

With the last of the steepness behind us, the views ahead of us were beautiful! Overlooking all of the Black Mountain area, Kelowna and towards the Okanagan Lake. Not to mention the opposite direction looking at Black Night Mountain and the Myra Canyon area! With these amazing panoramic views, this trail would be a perfect place to watch the sunset!

After enjoying the views and taking some photos, we continued on the trail to loop around and get back on the main trail and head back down. For the stair lovers out there, there is another set of stairs, across from the trailhead on Black Mountain Dr., offering another 100 stairs to climb! Whether you want a great workout outside or just want to enjoy the fantastic views, this trail is a perfect place to explore!

Always be mindful of your surroundings, pack out what you pack in, stick to the trails and happy exploring!
