After 31 years, well-known CEO of Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs, Diane Entwistle is retiring at the beginning of October. Jeremy Welder has been appointed the new CEO effective October 5th. Waste Connections of Canada has new management personnel in the interior. Geoff Goodman is the District Manager, BC Interior, Shawn Pearson, District Sales Manager, BC Interior and Christina Young is the Territory Manager. The company has a long history in our area. Cenoka Disposal was the original waste service company in the Kelowna area, circa 1970 which was purchased by WSI in the mid 1980’s and eventually grew into Waste Connections of Canada who they are today. The company has had many of the original staff stay on with them over the years. One of their original drivers, Elliott Peters, a 36 year veteran, is still working for the company as a roll off driver. Waste Connections employs 43 personnel in Kelowna, 17 in Vernon with other locations in Penticton, Kamloops and Salmon Arm. Their total workforce in the BC Interior is 110. Local managing consultant, Disa-marie Cameron of RevMedia Studio represents Canadian Hip Hop Artist Robbie G. He has just released a new animated video called “Got The People With Me”. Kelowna sets as a back-drop and features Robbie G and DAX. Robbie G and DAX are no strangers to filming videos in the valley and Robbie G. made the move from Guelph to Kelowna where he has been living for the past year.  DAX resides in California. While on a Canadian tour prior to COVID-19, they came together to record the song Got The People With Me at R-Evolution Media Studio. Robbie has been helping with the growth of the Canadian hip hop scene for years. Matt Bhird and founder of OK Valley Entertainment directed the video. Edan Fay, former operations manager is the new general manager at The Royal Kelowna, a 70 suite Bellstar (Aimbridge Hospitality) hotel and resort property since 2019. Bellstar has started a complete common space and in-suite renovation of the property and are hoping to have the common place completed by early 2021 and in-suite completed by end of 2021. The GolfBC Championship, a Mackenzie Tour PGA TOUR Canada event for Kelowna was cancelled this year due to COVID-19. Focus has now shifted to 2021 for the fifth year of the professional golf tournament that has generated $600,000 for charities, including $500,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation.  Last week, volunteers and sponsors of the GolfBC Championship were thanked for their contribution to the event at Gallagher’s Canyon for a fun day of golf and to let them know how plans are coming for 2021. This is one of Kelowna’s top sports events and a world class tournament. Dates for next year’s GolfBC Championship and other Mackenzie Tour tournaments across Canada have not yet been released. Hugh Vassos is the Tournament Executive Director of the Kelowna event. The United Way Southern Interior BC (SIBC) has contributed over $1.3M in 90 plus charities throughout our region to support people who have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19. Many children and youth are enjoying outdoor activities and BrainTrust wants parents to know that if your child sustains a concussion, they could be eligible to receive support through BrainTrust Canada’s Youth Concussion Clinic. The clinic is a medically supervised approach to assisting children and youth aged 5 to 25 heal safely from a concussion. The clinic provides parents with one-to-one guidance, information, tools and the reassurance they need after their child or youth sustains a concussion. The Youth Concussion Clinic is made possible by funding provided by the KGH Foundation Kiwanis Legacy Fund. Christine Atkins is the Athletic Therapist and Youth Concussion Clinic Manager and Mia Burgess is the CEO of BrainTrust Canada.
