Long-time business in the Capri Mall, His N Hers Ladies Fashions is closing. Owner, George Wasyliw at 80 years of age is retiring. George has owned the popular ladies clothing store for over 25 years. He purchased it from well-known locals Walter and Sharon Fehr, who also owned the store for 25 years previous to that. The shop has had three locations in the Capri Mall over a 35-year period and was originally opened in Mission Park Shopping Centre. His N Hers has always been known for specializing in fitting real women in jeans. They were a shop in a shop for FDJ French Dressing Jeans as well as many other brands of comfy classic clothes. The store has been managed by well-known local gal Lise Anne Doiron for over 20 years who was also the store’s head buyer. His N Hers had many long-time staff who loved their customers. George and his wife Cherie are planning on travelling in their RV and enjoying their home in Puerto Vallarta. Drop into His N Hers as they are offering 50% off everything in the store.

Kelowna & District S.H.A.R.E Society at 581 Gaston Avenue is hosting a Free Community Giveaway on September 7th from noon to 2:30 p.m. All items are free, and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There will be no holds, and the items must be taken away immediately. Their last event was a huge success, and they are hoping that the public will come out and support the giveaway again. Free is good! Everything will be set up in their truck cage, which is next to the store. There will be kitchen items, furniture, electronics, household items, decorations and lots more.

The City of Kelowna has partnered with GreenStep Solutions to launch GreenStep Certified, a program to help businesses go green and take climate action. The program goal is to drive measurable emissions reductions and environmental stewardship through the promotion of energy efficiency, water conservation, low-carbon transportation, waste reduction, ecosystem restoration and other climate action initiatives, which help business owners save costs and reduce emissions in alignment with the City of Kelowna’s climate and environmental goals. The GreenStep Certified program is open to all types of Kelowna businesses and supports them in identifying, prioritizing and advancing climate action for improved environmental sustainability. Glen Stoten, Regional Manager - Canada of WestJet in Kelowna is leading a team of WestJet Canadian Airport Leaders in the Hope Air Haul for Hope – Pulling for Patients event on September 18th, 2024 at KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence. WestJet gives thousands of seats per year to this incredible cause that allows families with medical needs to fly to hospitals that they would not otherwise be able to afford. Their biggest hurdle is awareness, as many people in need are not aware of the services that WestJet provides. They will be providing a WestJet plane for the plane pull designed to test the WestJet team on their grit, strength and teamwork. A small group will pull a commercial aircraft 100M, competing against their own abilities and the clock. They are fundraising to make sure that Hope Air can continue to fund life-saving travel for medical care. The Okanagan’s most die-hard Seahawks fans have had a local booster club chapter since 2017 and recently held their AGM. This year’s executive is Brad McKinnon, President; Richard McAdam, Vice-Chair and Vice-President, Membership; Jason Keis, Secretary; John Davey, Treasurer; Deb White and Kyle Ferguson, Directors at Large. The club has set up their game watch party schedule at Pretty Not Bad in Kelowna and Match Eatery in Vernon, with prizes and contest for members. Rad Relish Co. of West Kelowna has won the 2024 Indigenous Business Award (IBA) for Business of the Year – One to Two Person Enterprise from the BC Achievement Foundation. This award program shares remarkable stories of Indigenous business excellence, while setting an inspiring example for the next generation of entrepreneurs. By recognizing outstanding people and businesses, the IBA gives voice to Indigenous entrepreneurship while modelling success for others to follow. This funding is targeted to assist non-status Indigenous persons access funding they normally would be unable to take advantage of.
