Bread Co. has opened their third location in the city at #103 – 1708 Dolphin Avenue in Landmark 2. Owned and operated by brothers and fifth generation bakers, Dan and Mike Bronswyk, their father Henk and five uncles started baking in the Netherlands and now Dan and Mike have been baking in Kelowna since they opened their first store and coffee shop at 363 Bernard Avenue nearly 20 years ago. Their second location was opened at 2949 Pandosy Street 14 years ago. Bread Co. is known for their fine baked goods and eatery for breakfast and lunch daily at all three locations. Serving local Cherry Hill coffee, including Espresso and specialty coffees, Bread Co. has a huge variety of artisan sourdough-based breads, croissants, muffins, European pastries, cheesecakes, tarts, gluten free products and organic multi-grain, just to mention a few. Their most popular bakery items are the strawberry-rhubarb tarts, pumpkin tarts, the nut-job cookies and banana bread. They also serve gourmet hot and cold sandwiches, salads and house-made gluten free soups. Kelowna SMILE Therapy for Kids has opened at #1 – 1551Sutherland Avenue. Owned and operated by Liza Burgess, SMILE Therapy is about supporting kids through Dynamic Movement Intervention and Sensory Motor Integrated Learning Experiences, heling them grow, learn, and thrive. To celebrate, they are hosting an Open House on Saturday, October 5th from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. If you have kids or know of families who could benefit from specialized therapy, this is a good opportunity to check out what they offer and enjoy snacks and games for the family.    

Kiwanis Club Central Okanagan is hosting Shred for a Cause on October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Kelowna Toyota, 1624 Cary Road. Safely dispose of your sensitive documents with ease as the shredding truck will be on-site for this event. The event is not just about shredding. Its also about supporting education and youth. Proceeds from the event will support helping to supply schools in School District 23 with locally published booklets on the history of forestry in the Okanagan and future programs benefiting children youth and young adults. There will be a free draw for a chance to win a $100.00 gift certificate. Kiwanis Club of the Central Okanagan are a group of community minded adults who volunteer to support programs and projects to improve the health and well-being of children and youth. Amanda Mason was the winner of The Child & Youth Advocacy Centre  (CYAC) Annual Car Raffle. The grand prize was a Lexus IS 300. The CYAC has raised over $50,000.00 through their annual car raffle. The money will be used for their work with children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect. Since the car was donated by Lift Auto Group, a member of the CSN Collision Centers network, all proceeds from the raffle will go to the CYAC. Other sponsors include Acera Insurance, CSN Collison, BASF, Lawson Lundell LLP and Mario’s Towing.

The popular Kelowna Buddhist Temple Fall Chow Mein and Apple Pie Sale is at 1089 Borden Avenue, across from Independent Grocers and the Capri Centre. They are offering veggie or pork chow mein for $12.00 each and frozen apple pies, regular or with Splenda for $12.00 each. The 26 Cops for Kids riders and support crew returned home to Kelowna to the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre on Sunday, September 15, receiving a rousing welcome. Presented by the Alan Budd Foundation, the Cops for Kids ride raised a whopping $260,000.00. Their 10-day ride took them through the South Okanagan, Kootenays, Thompson Region and then back home through Vernon. Retired RCMP Superintendent, Brent Mundle is the President of the Cops for Kids Charitable Foundation.

The Bridge Youth & Family Services has announced the 5th Annual Parade With a Purpose in downtown Kelowna on December 14th at 6:00 p.m. The parade started four years ago with just three floats in Kettle Valley by founders Pam Turgeon and Shadia Doty, raising $118,000 last year for The Bridge bringing them closer to building a Youth Recovery House. They are now calling on local businesses, organizations and community leaders to join them for this year’s spectacular event. This year’s funding goal is set at $250,000.00 for the Youth Recovery House that is slated to open in 2026. The Stober Foundation has come forward and will match all donations made to the parade doubling the impact of every dollar raised. Parade With a Purpose

To celebrate Halloween, New Vintage Theatre is hosting the Rocky Horror Picture Show at 7:00 p.m. nightly from October 10-13 and 15-19, 2024 at The Mary Irwin Theatre. Prop bags with fun things customized for audience interaction and are included with your ticket purchase. There is an adult language/subject matter advisory for this show.
