Most Wanted Luxury Resale, a luxury consignment store of fashion and accessories at 540 West Avenue has new owners. Now owned and operated by Lela and Mike Milacic, this unique shop offers luxury, high-end, name brand items for both men and women, but mostly for women. They also consign exclusive one-of-a-kind items that you might not see in any other shop. Most Wanted offers a large selection of luxury shoes and bags along with dresses, high-end jewellery, including diamonds, jackets, sunglasses, wallets, accessories and boots. They have a small selection of shoes and clothing for men. Some of the brands in the store at this time are Tiffany, Cartier, Hermes, Chanel, Dior, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, just to name a few. Okanagan College professor Corinna Chong’s novel “Bad Land” has been longlisted for the Giller Prize, the prestigious Canadian literary awards that celebrate the best in Canadian fiction across long formats and short stories. Corinna teaches English, Creative Writing and Fine Arts in the College’s Writing and Publishing Diploma Program. In 2021 she won the CBC Short Story Prize for her piece, Kids in Kindergarten, solidifying her reputation as a prominent voice in Canadian literature. The official launch of Bad Land is at the Okanagan Heritage Museum on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend this free event. www.corinnachong.com
Seoul-Ful Convenience Store located at 1619 Ellis Street on the corner of Ellis and Lawrence Avenue has just opened. Owned and operated by Seokwon (Dave) Park and managed by Peter Choi, the store is a Korean-style convenience store chock-full of everything from Korea. You will find product including dry goods, snacks, beverages, frozen ice cream, other frozen products, ready-to-eat meals, candy and a huge selection of Ramen noodles, offering a true taste of Korea. They are planning a ramen station corner where customers can cook and enjoy ramen on-site. To celebrate, they are hosting a grand opening on Monday, September 16th. At the end of September, they are planning to host a Buldak Ramen Challenge (Spicy ramen challenge) at their ramen station. This is a challenge all about eating different spicy ramen noodles. Peter sent me on my way with a few Korean products including a pear juice drink, Korean crackers and the most delicious ice-cream type sweet peach bar, which actually had slivers of peach in the bar and only 88 calories. The Maxine DeHart – United Way Drive-Thru Breakfast is fast approaching on Thursday, October 17th, 2024 at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. There are many existing sponsors that have generously stayed on board this year as they have in past years. You might be lucky enough to receive one of two smart watches that are donated as major prizes by RE/MAX Kelowna. In today’s world everyone can use a smart watch. Fripp Warehousing has come on board as a new sponsor. They have donated hundreds of reusable freshness vegetable and fruit bags with draw strings. This is the first time we have had a product of this type donated and are excited to have these in the bags. Loadza Toyz in Orchard Park are again donating gifts for the kids bags. Many financial institutions have come together to be sponsors. Huge thank you to all of them including BEEM Credit Union (Interior Savings) for providing the fantastic breakfast bags that they have sponsored for many years, RBC, TD, Prospera, Union and Scotiabank. You will see two great gentlemen asking for your donations in the line-up as you purchase your bags. They are Scot Amis, Founder and CEO of Haven Mattress and James Davison, Manager of Scotiabank on Dilworth Drive. Scot has also donated one of their popular Haven Mattresses. Wayne Unger of Kelowna Wallbeds has again donated a fantastic overnight package from the Penticton Lakeside Hotel, for a great getaway. This year, as in previous years, you do not need to bring cash to purchase your bags as we have the ability for credit cards and debit. Remember, all monies raised stay right here in our community. Milk & Sugar Bubble Tea Café & Chinese Food has recently opened at #2 – 1155 KLO Road, beside the Circle K. Managed by Maria Garcia and with Chef Sik Chen and Assistant Chef Karla Torrijos, Milk & Sugar offers an extensive bubble tea menu and a good variety of ice cream and milk shakes. This quaint restaurant is open for lunch and dinner for eat-in, take-out and third-party delivery. The Chinese food menu is extensive. Our group tried a variety of dishes including ginger pork, almond chicken, vegetable chop suey, Shanghai noodles (my favourite), ribs in black bean sauce, DiSanXian with eggplant, pepper and potatoes and an excellent BBQ pork. We also sampled different varieties of bubble tea. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. The menu was so extensive it was hard to choose our dishes. Open 11:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.

Moni has compiled 15-years’ worth of her best newsletter articles into a collection of amusing observances on life. As a skilled cook and baker, she has included eight delicious dessert recipes as well as the one for her famous Totally Decadent Fruitcake, which I have enjoyed over the years. Level Up AI Summit
The Smiley Thompson Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament is in memory of Alex Thompson, aka Smiley for his infectious smile. The event at Kings Stadium is September 14th beginning at 10:00 a.m. Alex was registered in the nursing program at UBCO and was also a huge part of the baseball community, as both a player and an umpire. Proceeds from the event will go toward a nursing bursary at UBCO. The game is free to watch and enjoy, but if you are so inclined, you can play for a $25.00 donation. Last year, which was the first year of the tournament with only one game of baseball played at Edith Gay Park. It was very successful with a great deal of money raised. This year, the committee will be hosting slo-pitch in a tournament style so more people can join in on the fun. There will be music, beverages and food to purchase.
