Holiday shopping can be difficult at the best of times. Crowded malls filled with screaming kids, long lines for the hottest electronics and that wonderful moment when your mind draws a complete blank on what to get somebody important. The task only becomes more difficult when you reach that person on your list who still pines over dead rockstars, seems to have every song of their favorite band on iTunes and whose wardrobe consists of only vintage band tees.

What do you get a person who’s greatest love is an intangible cluster of soundwaves? The task is not an easy one but generally, music lovers, concert buffs and those obsessed with bands are pretty easy to please.

If you’re at a loss as to what to get the music lover on your list for the holidays, let me be your guide!

iTunes Gift Cards, Spotify Subscription

Even if most of their phone's memory is taken up by music it will never be enough. An iTunes gift card makes a great stocking stuffer for the music lover on your list because it lets them get exactly what they want without having to pay! What could be better than that?

Paying for a year or even a month's subscription to Spotify or Apple Music will make you royalty in the eyes of your music buff. Now they can download as much music as they want from almost any artist!

Headphones or Docking station

After you’ve given your music lover the gift of downloading the music, why not amp up the way they listen to it? Music lovers need comfortable, good sound quality headphones. You can find great headphones and earbuds in many different places and you don’t need to spend a fortune.

Some like to play their music loud and proud, so a docking station or Bluetooth speaker would be the cherry on top, allowing your music lover to play their favorite jams no matter where they are in the house.

Records and a Record Player

Some music buffs like to keep things simple and pay homage to the glory days of music. Vinyl records and turntables give us the ability to pay that tribute and respect to  music  of the past, and even present! Almost every music lover has one of these or has been saving up to get one. There is just something about holding a physical copy of your band's favourite album that makes your heart sing, as well as brings on a certain nostalgia with  it’s  crackle and pops.

Luckily, finding vinyl has become much easier in recent years, and you can get a pretty decent sound system for a reasonable price too. If you are on the hunt for a record put out more recently by a new group, Milkcrate Records has you covered! They also sell some great options for sound systems.

Band Tee’s and Memorabilia

No matter what you may think, we music lovers can never, EVER, have enough band tees. Seriously, band tee’s could occupy 99.9% of our closet space and we would still be daydreaming of our next one. Whether it’s new, used, or vintage you are sure to bring a  huge smile to your band lovers’ face.

Now you can’t get just any band tee. Authenticity does play a factor and incorrect tour dates on band tees can be a real pet peeve for music lovers, so you gotta go to the right place. Rockabilia.com is the place to go for the best selection of not only shirts, but blankets, toques, guitar picks, and even holiday sweaters that will rock the socks off of your music lover!  If you are wanting to keep it local, Underground Music, has great stuff as well as the newly opened Hitz boutique on Bernard.

Decor

Most music buffs don’t want to just listen and wear their favorite bands; they want to live with them! No not literally (well yes, we want to do that too), but we love to have our walls covered with posters, hang up our most prized musical possessions and have almost every piece of furniture and dishware pay some sort of homage to our favorite artists. Things like record frames (which you can get at almost any music store), hero hooks to display our guitars, bar stools with our favorite band's logo, coasters and mugs; the list is endless! You can get these things at stores like HMV, Wentworth Music, Amazon and the band's merchandise tab on their own website!

Concert Tickets

If you are looking to really wow the music lover in your life and maybe even have them shed a few tears, then this is the gift to get! There is no better feeling than seeing a band you love live. It’s tricky to time as sadly, bands aren’t always touring, but when the time is right and you manage to snag tickets to, let's say, Guns and Roses, you will be the apple of their eye!

A bonus for you is that they will probably be so grateful that you will be the lucky one to join them at the show! Concert tickets can be found anywhere, but tricky to get your hands on. Sites like Ticketmaster, Select Your Tickets and Ticketfly are good places to hunt.

Now that you are an honorary music guru, go forth and give your music lover a rockin' holiday surprise!
