The time has come music lovers, Saturday, April 22nd is National Record Store Day (RSD).

Like Christmas coming early, this annual day is a celebration of our independent music distributors.

It’s always filled with great surprises and this year is no exception.

For those of you who like to spend hours sifting through shelves, stacks and milk crates packed full of vinyl records to find just what you’re looking for, well then Saturday is your day.

Known for bringing out the best sales and special releases, RSD has been bringing smiles to the faces of millions since its inaugural year in 2008.

Us Kelownians are lucky because we have two pretty exceptional indie record stores that carry everything you could ever hope for.

Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s, memorabilia and equipment, our two stores have everything to fulfill our musical desires and our hearts.

Milkcrate Records and Underground Music are both participants in RSD meaning they will have the special releases you have been waiting to get your hands on as well as some other sweet deals.

This year it seems as though the folks behind RSD and the artists we adore have really amped it up (get it?) as the list of releases is long and star-studded including some very rare gems.

To give you a little taste, you can expect music from legends such as; David Bowie, Prince, The Beatles, Jimmy Page, Grateful Dead, Cheap Trick, The Cure, Fleetwood Mac and Motorhead, just to name a few.

Don’t worry though, if you worship the musicians from this era there is plenty on its way for you as well from artists like; Sia, Miley Cyrus, The Lumineers, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Andre 3000 and All Time Low.

To see a more comprehensive list you can head to the RSD official website.

In addition to carrying some of these highly anticipated records, our local shops have some surprises of their own.

Milkcrate Records is not only going to carry these releases, but they're throwing a party on Saturday night.

They're not only celebrating what some music fanatics would call a beloved holiday but the stores 5th birthday, and the best part is that you’re all invited!

Starting at 8 p.m. at the Kelowna Forum, you can enjoy a night of live music, local food trucks and wicked silent auction items.

Tickets are available at Milkcrate Records or at the door!

Underground Music has you covered on Saturday starting bright and early.

They're opening up at 8:30 a.m. so you can beat the rush and the store is offering some crazy discounts, plus a few very rare memorabilia items.

For those of you who love the oldies and CDs, you can enjoy 20% off any vintage vinyl or rummage through the bargain bin and take advantage of the BOGO deal.

If you’re on the hunt for some fresh pressings, new vinyl will be a cool 10% off.

If you who have been keen on getting ahold of the Grateful Dead: Live at the PNE in Vancouver 1966 album this is the place to go.

With a large number of the album available you can also get your hands on one of the two framed posters signed by the poster creator Bob Masse himself.

I know your mind is probably blown, but get it together and get in the zone because these hot deals won’t last long and there are certainly a few treasures that are just waiting to spin on your turntable.

Happy Record Store Day everyone!
