This illuminating photo series depicts the hidden imperfections strewn across peoples’ faces due to sun exposure.

Cara Phillips is a New York-based model-turned-photographer who used ultraviolet light to show the age spots that would otherwise go unnoticed under the guise of a healthy tan.

Ms. Philips was inspired by photos from doctors’ offices and websites, and invited her subjects to keep their eyes closed for her sobering black and white portraits.
