Richmond: (September 27, 2012) – Laurel D’Andrea, Publisher - Beyond 50 Magazine was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contribution and dedication to strengthening volunteerism in the province and in her community.
The medal was awarded at Volunteer BC’s – Volunteer Futures Conference.

Laurel D’Andrea was chosen for her passion in her community to creatively unite non-profits and businesses throughout the Central Okanagan. As publisher of the Beyond 50 Magazine, she combines personal, family and business interests to lead by example.
She presents at national and provincial conferences, sits on boards, chairs events, raises funds, and inspires community engagement through her business, Beyond 50. Laurel acts as a catalyst to unite businesses creatively with nonprofits throughout the Central Okanagan.
Laurel is most known locally for her volunteer activities with the Volunteer Fair, Sunrise Rotary, TELUS Community Ambassadors, and the City of Kelowna Civic and Community Awards.
“I so admire Laurel’s energy and amazing ability to think outside the box that nominating her for this award was a pleasure,” said Dawn Wilkinson, Community Services Manager for Kelowna Community Resources.
"By awarding the Diamond Jubilee Medal to individuals like Laurel, we are demonstrating our deepest appreciation for their commitment and service to strengthening volunteerism in the province,” said Lawrie Portigal, President, Volunteer BC.
The medals were created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne and were given to 60,000 Canadians who showed extensive volunteerism and served their communities in exceptional ways.
For more than 30 years, Volunteer BC has been the provincial leader in promoting the value and impact of volunteerism and enhancing the abilities of volunteer-involving organizations.
Volunteer BC’s mission is to be a strong and relevant provincial voice in promoting the
development and value of volunteerism in B.C. by working cooperatively with volunteer centres, voluntary organizations, governments, business, and volunteer-involving organizations.
