A family of three in California are recovering in hospital after they were attacked by a pet cat.

According to News10 the three were taken to hospital with superficial wounds after a year and a half old cat, named Khat, clawed their faces, arms and legs. Khat was taken to the SPCA while the family was treated.

"The cat ran and jumped on his leg and was like, attached to him," the owner said. She and her family asked not to be identified. "He's never been an aggressive cat, he's never been mean, he just flipped," she told News10.

The family reportedly called the Roseville police, which would typically call the city’s animal control department but since it was closed they dialed the Fire Department.  Firefighters threw a blanket on the cat and used a pole to lure him into a case before finally trapping him.
