The West Kelowna Warriors beat the visiting Vernon Vipers 6-5 in a double overtime thriller on Friday night.

The Warriors had some great moments, especially in the first two periods with leads of 2-0 and 4-1. Josh Bly and Brayden Gelsinger had the first two goals for the Warriors in the first period. In the second, Jason Cotton and Jonathan Desbiens made it 4-1 for a three point lead. Warriors goalie Andy Desautels became injured in the second after a scramble in front of his net. Though he finished the period, Scott Patton took over for the third and the overtime periods.

Though the Vipers were trailing 4-2 after 40 minutes, Luke Voltin shot past Patton early in the third to make it 4-3. Cotton had his second powerplay goal of the night to make it 5-3 halfway through the third, but the Warriors couldn't keep up their lead. Thanks to a tripping penalty to Jordan Masters and bench minor, the Vipers had a five-on-three advantage. Less than a minute in to this two-man advantage, Thomas Aldworth made the game 5-4. Only two minutes later, Liam Finlay banged in a loose puck to force the game into overtime, 5-5.

The Vipers were strong in the first overtime, but the Warriors took over in the second. Liam Blackburn snatched a loose puck from the Warrios zone and made a breakaway down the right to snap the game-winning goal past Danny Todosychuk, making it 6-5.

Friday's win bumped the second place Warriors up two points, and they are now four points ahead of the fourth place Vipers.
