Spring is just around the corner (finally), and I can't wait to start dressing for warmer weather. In the meantime, dressing for the transition between winter and spring can prove difficult. It's wet, muddy and you really never know if and when you'll be catching rays of sunshine or snowflakes.
I've got you covered for this winter to spring shift with five fashion tips!
Showing skin strategically
Transitioning into spring, there's that hesitation when dressing on being fully covered up, or considering what parts of your body are fashionably acceptable to be showing during this month. Shoulders and legs are what I consider the ‘safe zone’ when showing off skin during this transitional season; of course, whichever you are comfortable with.
The off the shoulder tops are great for giving off the "cold shoulder" look and are downright trending right now. Showing some leg with some tall boots is also a great way to show off some skin as we head into spring. These are great ways to show off those legs in two completely different styles.
Accessorizing in brights
It’s not yet far enough into spring to start wearing full on bright colours and florals, so stay safe and have a little fun with it by bringing pops of colour into your wardrobe. Whether you accessorize with shoes, sunglasses, purses, a light scarf or whatever fun pieces you have laying around, it's always exciting playing with a pop of colour and finding ways to show off your style and personality.
Don't wear suede shoes (or any sensitive fabric for that matter)
Stick with a leather/pleather or durable shoes through this transition season. Walking through the muck in delicate fabric will destroy your shoes before you even get the chance to show them off for spring. A nice leather bootie is perfect for stomping through the snow and is also great to wear when that fluffy, white stuff melts it away.
Spring closet cleanout (editing your closet for spring)
This can be aggravating and time consuming, however, it's a must to get your closet ready for spring. Start by going through every single piece; take what is old, ruined or something you haven't worn in a year and GET RID OF IT! Donate it or sell it, damaged goods throw out. Ask yourself… do you have too much colour? Not enough colour? Are you looking to purchase spring trends? What basic and necessity pieces are you missing or need new ones of? This ties into number five…
Make a list before you shop
When you start to shop for spring items: what do you need? What is your closet lacking? Make a list of items as you do your closet clean out so that you don't get sidetracked when you're shopping. Before you know it, you might have spent your spring shopping budget without crossing one thing off your list. I've been guilty for that, which is why I now always make a list in priority order!
