1969-12-31 11:00:00 1969-12-31 18:00:00 America/Vancouver 'Screen Time' by Kyle Beal at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present 'Screen Time' a new exhibition by Alberta-based artist Kyle Beal, now on view in the Main Gallery. 'Screen Time' is a collection of recent artworks that considers ideas of individuality, performance of the everyday, and our online existence. Tracing an ever blurring line between performing ourselves and at-rest ‘authenticity’, the exhibition features a mix of objects, which all rely on an interplay between reflection and transparency; slyly all surface, no depth. These objects reference scenarios where one might be performing, such as a green room, where an actor is in costume but not in character. Or an abstracted mirror, doubling the space and the viewer. The exhibition acts as a platform with viewers positioned in dual roles of ‘content creator’ and ‘cultural consumer’, while aiming to parasitically capitalize on the inevitable selfies. 'Screen Time' will be on view from January 28 to March 12, 2022. The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is open Tuesday to Friday, 11am - 6pm, and Saturday 11am - 4pm.
