WESTERN RATTLESNAKES IN BRITISH COLUMBIA
SPEAKERl Danielle Schmidt
The Western Rattlesnake is classified as threatened in British Columbia, where it faces several threats to survival such as road mortality, persecution, and habitat loss due to agricultural development and urbanization. Current research aims to better understand the ecology and population genetics of this snake species to help encourage its persistence throughout BC.
Danielle Schmidt is a second-year master's student at UBCO hailing all the way from Marlton, New Jersey. After obtaining a degree in Zoology from North Carolina State University, her interest in both population genetics and wildlife conservation brought her out to BC, where she is now studying the conservation genetics of the Western Rattlesnake.
