The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies and the Creative Writing Department are pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Okanagan Short Story Contest! Please join us at Milkcrate Records for the official announcement of this year’s winners.
The Okanagan Short Story Contest awards the best new short stories by writers in the Southern Interior of British Columbia: east of Hope, west of the Alberta border, north of the US border and south of Williams Lake. Past winners have gone on to publish with Penguin Random House, Arsenal Pulp Press, and NeWest Press, as well as numerous magazines and journals nationally and internationally.
The Amber Webb-Bowerman Memorial Foundation co-sponsored the 2019 contest, allowing FCCS to award larger winning purse this year: $1,000 for first place, $400 for second place, and $200 for third place. This year there is also a new $200 award for the top short story by a high-school student. Co-sponsors are FCCS, Kelowna Capital News, and the Central Okanagan Foundation.
Previous winner, Dania Tomlinson, will select winning submissions.

This year’s judge Dania Tomlinson, is a budding author and University of British Columbia MFA alumna. Dania resides in the Okanagan with her husband and young daughter. Her award-wining fiction has been published in literary magazines, including Room and SubTerrain. Our Animal Hearts is her first novel.
The free, one-hour public event takes place Thursday, April 25th at Milkcrate Records, starting at 6:30 p.m.
