Vehicle Fire Shuts Down Okanagan Connector Overnight

UPDATE (1:15pm): The highway is now alternating lane closures for 20 min intervals in eastbound lane at Brenda Mine Road Exit for the next two to three hours due to the vehicle recovery. 

The Okanagan Connector is open in both directions following an incident near the Brenda Mine Road Exit overnight.

According to DriveBC, Highway 97C was closed in both directions around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night because of a vehicle fire. By midnight, crews had the highway partially re-opened as traffic was flowing westbound, while the eastbound lanes remained closed. By 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, crews had the highway open in both directions, but traffic was reduced to single lanes.

By 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, the highway was fully reopened heading westbound, but eastbound had a single lane open. Reports indicate that the occupants of the vehicle were not injured, but details have not been confirmed by RCMP.
