Update: RMCP have confirmed that the crash that closed the highway north of Kamloops, the second incident detailed below, was fatal. Details here.

Original Story:

The Coquihalla Highway has one lane closed northbound because of an incident, and long delays are expected as a result.

The highway is closed northbound at the Zopkios Break Check in the Coquihalla Recreation Area. DriveBC is reporting delays and high volume in the area as well as traffic congestion as a result of the incident.  According to VSA Highway Maintenance, a vehicle has caught on fire and is the cause of the delay.

The southbound lanes are fully open and not affected by the incident.

A second incident on Highway 5 has closed the highway in both directions north of Kamloops, but there is single lane alternating traffic. The highway is closed 27 kilometres south of Barriere and there is no estimated time of opening. It’s unclear what the cause of that accident is. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
