A snowfall warning has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway as up to 20 cm of snow is expected to fall.

According to Environment Canada, a Pacific frontal system will bring snow to the southern interior highway passes Thursday night and into Friday morning. Light snow can be expected from the system Thursday night, but it will become heavier on Friday morning. Motorists can expect to see up to 20 cm of snow over the Coquihalla Summit and Kootenay Pass by early Friday evening.

The heavy snow from Hope to Merritt is expected to change to rain by Friday afternoon. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. For the latest information and updates about conditions visit DriveBC.
