Travel Advisory Issued for Coquihalla Highway

DriveBC and Environment Canada have issued a weather alert for the Coquihalla Highway as a significant amount of snow is expected.

Heavy snowfall is expected along Highway 5 from Merritt to Hope between Friday noon and early Saturday morning. The forecast is calling for snow mixed with heavy rain, and freezing temperatures which will make roads very slick.

A travel advisory is in effect and motorists are being advised to consider taking an alternate route such as Highway 3 through Princeton or Highway 1 via Boston Bar. As much as 20 cm of snow is expected to fall over the Coquihalla Summit and visibility may be suddenly reduced at times.
