A single vehicle crash early Sunday morning along the Coquihalla has sent five people to hospital.

The crash happened around 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning on the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) near the Mine Creek exit.

A Honda Civic with five occupants inside was travelling northbound when the crash happened.

All five people in the car were transported to hospitals in Kamloops and Merritt with serious injures.

RCMP said all five people were from the Lower Mainland.

Central Interior Traffic Services said alcohol and speed appear to have been factors in the collision, noting it was fortunate no other vehicles were involved.

Merritt RCMP and Traffic Services are continuing to investigate.
