Multiple collisions along the Coquihalla Highway causes significant delays for traffic

Update (3:18 p.m.) DriveBC has confirmed that Highway 5 is now open southbound. Drivers should expect delays due to congestion. 

Update (2:58 p.m.): Kamloops RCMP have confirmed that three accident scenes were observed along the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) near Exit 355. Four vehicles were involved.

 One person was transported from the scene by Air Ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital, while other were transported by ground ambulance. Police said there are not currently details on the injuries of those involved, however none are reported as being life threatening.

Kamloops RCMP said road conditions along Highway 5 are still poor due to weather and drivers are being advised to avoid the highway. A KelownaNow reader said all traffic is currently being stopped in Merritt and rerouted through Lytton.

There is currently no estimated time for the southbound lane to re-open. Drivers can check DriveBC for the latest updates. 

Update (1:23 p.m.): Kamloops and Logan Lake RCMP said they are currently responding with BC Ambulance Service to the multiple collisions along the Coquihalla Highway. RCMP said road conditions are extremely poor due to weather and traffic is not advised for the highway at this time.

Those travelling along the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) on Sunday may notice some delays in the southbound lane.

According to DriveBC, the southbound lane of Highway 5 remains closed after a multi vehicle incident along the highway.

The incident happened 3 kilometres south of the Box Canyon Chainup area. Both directions of the highway was temporality closed for an air ambulance to attend the scene.

BC Ambulance confirmed that six ground ambulances were sent to the scene. It is not yet known how many patients were involved in the collision. 

Just before 1 p.m., the northbound lane was reopened.

The southbound lane remains closed.
