A new hotel is set to open in Whistler and it’s unlike anything Canada has had before.
The Pangea Pod Hotel strips down the hotel experience to the bare necessities that you need, which are a bed and a bathroom.
As the name suggests, the hotel doesn’t offer your standard room, but instead has individual pods for each guest.
The instant thought for most is a small, cramped and uncomfortable Japanese-style capsule hotel, but that’s not the case.
“We’re not a Tokyo-style capsule hotel,” says the website. “Thousands of hours of painstaking interior design work and sophisticated prototyping was invested in making sure your Pod doesn’t just help you get a great night’s sleep, but also makes you feel completely relaxed and comfortable with your surroundings.”
The pods have a natural wood finish, double mattresses, a mirror, shelving, hanging space, a fan, a lockbox for valuables and a number of USB and regular outlets.
Bathrooms are shared between guests and, unlike a typical communal bathroom set up, are broken into different components.
That way you don’t have to wait for someone to finish showering to use a toilet, for example, and with 60 bathroom components serving 88 pods, it’s unlikely you’ll have to wait at all.
There are also plenty of communal things to enjoy in the Pangea Pod Hotel.
The hotel features a café and bar that serves food, beer and cocktails, as well as a third-floor patio with a rooftop bar that overlooks the village.
Bikes, snowboards, skis and other equipment are covered as well, as the hotel features a storage room where you can keep all your toys safely and hang any of your wet things.
The hotel has not posted rates yet, but they’re expected to be in between the price of a hotel and a hostel.
The Pangea Pod Hotel opens in 2018.
