Those flying from Kelowna to Vancouver, Edmonton or Toronto can now save a little more on their travel costs starting today.

Kelowna-based Flair Airlines begins service as the first ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) in Canada to fly from Vancouver International Airport (YVR), Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) and Kelowna International Airport (YLW).

The airline announced plans in September to expand its route network to three major airports.

The three cities join Hamilton, Winnipeg, Abbotsford and Edmonton as cities serviced by Flair, but only Edmonton is accessible directly from YLW.

“Over the past six months we have expanded our route network, increasing our aircraft fleet by purchasing two more Boeing 737-400s,” said Chris Lapointe, vice president of commercial operations for Flair Airlines.

“We have entered the Global Distribution System and are excited about making it easier for customers to purchase air tickets and bringing our low fares to these new markets."

Out of Kelowna, Flair will fly to Vancouver four times weekly, to Edmonton three times weekly and to Toronto three times weekly.

Flair has plans to be operating 12 aircraft by the spring of 2019.
