Farmers' market season is officially in full swing and British Columbians are invited to explore the many farmers’ markets across the province on their summer travels, while potentially winning prizes on the way.
Despite the cold winter, wet spring and forest fires in some regions of the province, B.C. is now at the height of farmers’ market season.
This year, the number of farmers’ markets across B.C. has grown to 147, with nine new markets opening up in 2017.
Visitors can expect to see live music, chef demos, activities and local artisans this summer.
Vegan and gluten-free foods, kombucha, fermented foods and pickled things have become more popular, so visitors can also expect to be able to find them at market vendors.
You’ll also be able to get wild crafted and harvested goods from foraged mushroom businesses, as well as interesting alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The BC Association of Farmers Markets (BCAFM) is running a #BCFarmersMarketRoadTrip contest, to encourage people to explore farmers’ markets on their summer travels.
