A pair of Okanagan wineries have earned top marks at an international wine competition.

West Kelowna’s Kalala Organic Estate Winery and Okanagan Falls’ Liquidity Estate Winery were both recognized at the 2018 Chardonnay du Monde in France last weekend.

The 2016 Liquidity Chardonnay Okanagan Falls Reserve took home the top gold medal, while the 2016 Kalala Chardonnay Icewine took home the second highest gold medal in the competition.

Only 10 gold medals were meant to be handed out, but a total of 13 were won due to some of the wines being ranked equally.

“This competition is our Olympics,” said Karnail Singh Sidhu, Kalala founder and owner. “We feel proud to be up in second place, and we feel proud of Liquidity for top place.”

“To be judged the world’s two top Chardonnays is good, even great, not just for the Okanagan and BC wine producers, but for the entire wine industry in Canada.”

This year’s Chardonnay du Monde, which took place March 7-9, featured 679 competitors from 39 wine-producing countries.
