What is your name?
Lisa Oswald

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Brooks, Alberta and we moved to the Okanagan when I was a toddler.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Oh, tough question! I love spending time with my mom. We always have a great time, no matter what we are doing. I love my mom.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would travel to Scotland. I would love to visit the Standing Stones and Stone Circles. I find them absolutely fascinating.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I really enjoy Georgie Girl – House of Vintage. Such a fantastic little shop and you never know what you will find there.

What is your favourite activity?
I love hiking with my fiancé, Curtis. There are so many beautiful hiking trails in the Okanagan. We are always looking for new places to go.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Burgers, with extra pickles.

What is a hidden gem you enjoy in the Okanagan?
I love Kalamoir Park on the westside. It’s such a beautiful place to hike and swim in the summer.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
There are really too many to choose from. I tend to be quite shy and get embarrassed easily.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My older sister Shannon and I used to be avid horseback riders. We traveled a lot to compete in dressage, jumping and cross country. Those camping trips are definitely some of my favourite memories!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I coached for a few years with Westside Ringette, as well as took a seat on the Board of Directors. Those years coaching were some of the best experiences of my life. Being able to coach my oldest daughter and her teammates was absolutely amazing.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Simple – more peace and acceptance of diversity.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love touring local wineries.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would really like to see more affordable family housing options. It’s hard for large families to find suitable accommodations.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I am also a Nail Technician. I love being able to be creative and help clients feel beautiful.

What is the name of your business/organization?
I work at Aries Accounting. We are located in the Lakeview Shopping Plaza in West Kelowna. We will soon be moving into the new Lakeview Plaza building and we cannot wait!

What does your business do?
Aries Accounting is a tax preparation, accounting, and bookkeeping services firm. We offer quality service to small and medium sized businesses in and around the Okanagan Valley.

How to people connect with you through social media?
Aries Accounting has a Facebook page. We like to post helpful tax tips each week, along with the occasional fun post as well.

Where can people find your business online?
aries-accounting.com

Why did you get into/start this business?
I have known my boss, Sarah, for quite a number of years. When I heard she was hiring, I jumped at the chance to work with her. I haven’t regretted it since!

What is the goal of your business?
Our key objective is to assist clients with their accounting needs and help them save time.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
My biggest struggle has always been work/life balance.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I guess I have to say I would do things the same. Making mistakes in life can become a great learning experience.

Why do you think it is important to shop local?
I feel it’s important to support our local economy. We have some incredible local businesses in both Kelowna and West Kelowna.

Give someone that you think deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Two people – my mom and dad, Margo and Darrell Kendal. This past year has thrown some health struggles their way, and yet they continue to be such a strong support to me and my three children. I don’t know what we would do without them.

My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:
Stacey Bengert from Aspire Recruitment Ltd.
