Meet Alexandra! Alexandra is from Grand Forks and has called Kelowna home since 2014.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

Grand Forks BC- Kelowna Since 2014.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I love spending time with my little sister Cassandra. She always finds a way to make me smile and laugh.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Opus Art Store, they have so much to offer for people with creative minds and a great setup for getting prints done!

Describe yourself in one word.
Energetic

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
New York City, i have always wanted to go and see the big apple. Not sure if it solely because of the cheesy movies i have watched but i would love to see and feel the power the city holds.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love playing slow pitch on my mixed ball team.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Not knowing the Timbit was the doughnut hole.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

The majority of my inspiration has came to me through experiences with people. Friends, family or even strangers on the street.
To say there is one specific inspiration that trumps the rest would be innacurate. I would say people inspire me, all people.
Some inspire me to do better and work harder, or try new things. While others remind me to be greatful and thankful for the life I have.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My favorite childhood memory would have to be fishing with my Grandpa Melvin. We would go out on Jewel Lake close to where I grew up and I am still not certain I ever caught anything as I did more chatting than fishing as a kid and most likely scared all the fish away.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteer with certain animal rescue groups.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would want to change child poverty, to somehow supply other people with more of their required means. I feel like the majority of us are very privileged and it would be a great feeling to be able to help those in need more.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Gellatly Bay

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would love to see more dog friendly areas. Kelowna has already worked on this and done a great job, but my little furry friends are very important to me and I would love to see more dog friendly beaches.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
I think the climate in Kelowna is wonderful, and the city is a perfect size in between a smaller more person city and a larger centre. I love how you are in a beautiful city but only a few minutes from a mountain hike or the ski hill.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

I want to travel to Europe where my ancestors are from specifically whales, Italy and Austria.
I want to learn how to surf.
I want to see Shania Twain live.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I Love to Burn wood.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook, Instagram Website (launching Nov 1, 2019)

What is the name of your business/organization?
Alexandra Davies Creations

Why did you get into/start this business?
I was making my girlfriends bathtub boards for their Christmas presents last year, and posted them on my personal instagram page and really seemed to catch a lot of interest!

What is the goal of your business?
To Create custom unique art pieces people can buy as gifts or useful household items and decor

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
That I never seem to have enough time for all of the things I want to complete.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?

I would do things just as they fell into place. I would not want to change the outcome of where I am now.

What do you always find yourself saying?
You get what you give off.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Live each day like it is your last, we never know what is around the corners... so have "no bad days".

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I would love to spend the day with my Dad in his workshop. We always had so much fun building and creating things together and if it were not for him helping create the initial gifts I did I don't know as if any of this progression with my wood burning would have even ever came to be.
He is the one who introduced me to the wood burning tool and suggested I try putting my own unique designs into the gifts I was making for my girlfriends for Christmas. So I would love to spend a day with him in his shop doing what we love doing, creating things.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I think it is important to give back to our own community and support each other in our businesses.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment has to be successfully producing and selling my artwork. There is a huge sense of accomplishment when you are making a living doing what you love the most.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Shout Out to my newly found friend Miranda Thomas. She is an incredible hair stylist, extension expert and she even makes wigs for cancer patients. I have even had the pleasure in meeting some of her clients. She is an incredible individual!

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Miranda Thomas

Some general comments I would like to share are:
My wood burning is all custom to order and freehand. I work with local individuals who make specific pieces for me out of specific types of wood, and others who supply me with the beautiful live edge slabs. I had never burned wood prior to December 2018 and I look forward to expanding into other businesses and other cities as well.
