In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Amanda Watson.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I grew up in the small town of Grand Forks, BC and after graduating high school I continued my education in Nelson, BC and graduated in the Aesthetics program in 2006. Then to further my career I relocated to the Okanagan in 2007 and have resided here for 12 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
That would have to be my sister Raeann. She is such a strong, loving, positive person and we always create lots of wonderful memories together.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would love to travel to South America and explore my family heritage.

What is your favourite activity?
I love being outdoors and staying active all year around. My favourite activity would be hiking, although there are several other activities I enjoy.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Pizza for sure.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
You will have to ask my dearest friends...

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I lost my dad at a young age. I saw that my mom had to be both parents and raise two girls being a single mom. I saw how hard she worked to provide a comfortable life for my sister and I. She taught us to be independent and stand up for what's right.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I have so many childhood memories growing up in a small town. My sister and I would explore for hours outside creating forts and using our imagination.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I am always up for helping people in need. I always like to donate my aesthetics services to charities and events around Kelowna because I believe everyone needs to be pampered in some way.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I wish people were more positive because if you can live a positive life there would be less negativity in this world.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
There are so many great wineries in the Okanagan. I love to take the time and get a few friends together and go wine tasting.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Knox mountain. I love hiking to the top and enjoying the stunning views of Okanagan lake. Mountains make me smile every time.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I see so many homeless people struggling from mental health and addictions, I wish there was a bigger place for them to go, seek help and live off the streets.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The diversity.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. I really would love to be a mom
2. Get my personal training certificate
3. Do more traveling and sight seeing

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I love watching disney movies.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
Facebook, Instagram and my website Bernard Laser.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Complete Laser & Esthetics.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I modeled for a short time, while I learned how to look after my body and stay healthy. It made me very interested in the beauty industry to help others look and feel beautiful on the inside and out.

What is the goal of your business?
My goal for my business would be to make each client have the best experience possible.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Sometimes I take things too personal.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Every decision I have made I have learned a lesson and it's a continuous on-going journey.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'Go for it.' Everyone should never be scared to go for something that they truly love.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Being a licensed Laser Technician and Esthetician. There is no other job I rather do. Being an Esthetician, it brings me so much joy as I get to build relationships with clients and make them look and feel good.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
I want to give a shout out to Jarred Billeck with Skyrim construction. He is such a hard working builder and he does everything from blue prints to planning to build an entire home from the ground up. He is a huge inspiration for his work ethics.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Mathieu Bedard.
