In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Angela Ross.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I grew up between Maple Ridge and Coquitlam but moved to Kelowna four years ago.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
There is no way I could pick just one person. I am so grateful to have the most amazing friends and family who all play such an important role in my life.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Columbia. My dad lives there and it's so warm! I am much more of a fair weather person and I am done with the cold weather already.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
First one that comes to mind is Lakehouse Home Store. I love home décor and they have so many goodies!

What is your favourite activity?
Dancing, running, yoga, or a good Netflix binge. Life is all about balance right?

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
PIZZA, every time.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Being talked into singing karaoke in front of a full bar. Luckily it was in another country, alongside three other girls and was not filmed. That I know of anyways.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
During the first running clinic I took I found out that my coach is a cancer survivor. She shared her story while still kicking my butt. Best motivator, inspiration and friend I could have asked for and she has continued to help me to reach many goals.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Road trips to California to visit my Grandparents. My brother and I in the back seat driving our parents crazy, waiting for the air to get warmer and the giant windmills on the hillside above White Water that meant we were almost there.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I have volunteered with some running events in Kelowna.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Socks and sandals would be banned forever, Crocs, and for people to be a lot nicer to each other.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Yoga on the Vine! Outdoor yoga in a winery followed with a glass of wine with friends. Doesn’t get much more zen than that!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
In the middle of the lake on a boat. I don’t have a boat so probably somewhere quiet along the lakeside or up Knox Mountain.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would love for the homelessness problem to be solved. I believe everyone deserves a roof over their head and there has to be a way to make that happen. I wish I had the answers.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
There are so many community events that include something for everyone and are easily accessible. Plus we have an amazing lake; beautiful scenic walkways and you can drive for five minutes and it feels like you have left the whole city behind.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. To sleep in an overwater bungalow on the ocean in Bali
2. Ride an elephant
3. To travel to new places

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I eat WAY too much popcorn. Like a lot.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
Mostly Facebook, but I really like Instagram.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Lash Fox Beauty.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I started this business because I was obsessed with getting my lashes done and wanted to see if I could do it. I really got into it because I found out I had a talent for it and I love it! Now I can’t wait to make everyone a #lashfoxbeauty.

What is the goal of your business?
To grow an empire! But a little more realistically, for now is to continue to grow stronger in the industry and train in additional areas. To be able to share my passion with everyone who is interested and never stop learning.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Being told I wouldn’t be able to dance competitively again at 16. I grew up dancing and it was what I thought my future was going to be focused around.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
There are some events in my past I think I would like to change, now that I know better, but at the end of the day if they didn’t happen I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am right now. So would have to say I would keep everything the same.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I have been told it is 'I’m cold'. Apparently I need to wear socks more.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jennifer Aniston. Major girl crush. But really my mom. I wish she lived four minutes away and not four hours away so I could bug her every day. I love you mom!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To support each other and build our community. Every time you shop local you are supporting a dream!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Training for and completing three half marathons in the three months following my 30th birthday, with the first one being on the day of.

Give someone you think that deserves a shout out and explain why!
My man! He continues to pursue his dreams and crush his goals all while putting up with and encouraging me daily, both in personal and professional ways.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Christine Ainsworth from Run like a Diva Ambassador.
