Meet Caleb! Caleb is originally from Vancouver and the lower mainland, he has called Kelowna home for over 10 years! He likes to travel and dance!

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

Vancouver, BC and the lower mainland but have lived in Kelowna for over 10 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Favourite person would be favourite people my parents John and Katherine. We are great friends and I can talk about anything with them and be at the highest of highs or lowest of lows and always know they are there to support me. They are really fun.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Urban Fare. I know they have locations in the lower mainland too but I must insist. Their selection of fresh food for a great price in Kelowna is outstanding.

Describe yourself in one word.
Motivator

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Australia. I love sunshine and it is part of the commonwealth. I have not explored Australia at all and am eager to go. I also grew up watching Australian Open tennis and it would be a dream of mine to go and watch some matches live with the Aussies!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Latin Dancing. Going to Salsa, Bachata, Merenge, Kizomba!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I was too young to remember clearly but was told what happened by my family. When I was a little kid I was at a restaurant with my family one night and I would walk around begging strangers at their dinner table for their french fries. LOL

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

The day I discovered I my passion to be a public motivational speaker! I was 17 years old and was on a missions trip with my parents and we were invited to speak to a group of orphans at an orphanage in Kenya. That day seems like a lifetime ago yet I remember it so clearly. I will never forget the passion and excitement flowing through me after I finished preaching. I stepped off the platform sat down and my Mom turned to me and said "you were born to do this."

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Fishing with my grandpa (who has since passed away 5 years ago) and my dad on a once in a lifetime 3 days fishing adventure in the Queen Charlotte Islands in BC for Chinook, Coho and Halibut fish. Not only did we experience world class fishing for 3 days but we ate and dined like kings with the freshest food one could ever taste in the whole world. When the trip was over we were able to pack the fish we caught and have them shipped back to our homes. We stocked our freezers for years!!!!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteer as an assistant coach for the Special Olympics Kelowna golf program each spring helping the head coach my father John Matthews coach and train intermediate and advanced golfers how to play. Also an ambassador and instructor with youth and adults for the anti-bullying and internet safety programs through TELUS WISE.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Social Media. I would eliminate it. Lets go back to real relationships face to face and not through a screen.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Secret beach spots on summer evenings when most people have gone home. Go swimming and watch sun set.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
The homeless situation. It is honestly very sad but at the same time there needs to be a change in approach as the current way it is being handled is not helping anybody the homeless or small businesses owners. We need to come up with a solution that will benefit everyone and our city as a whole.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Having 4 seasons. Hot summer beach weather, pleasant spring, crispy autumn and fresh powder up in the mountains for the winter at Big White!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

Golfing St. Andrews in Scotland with my Dad, Riding on a Camel in Egypt with the Great Pyramids behind me & celebrating a Vancouver Canucks NHL Stanley Cup victory in the springtime on Robson street before I kick the bucket.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
Me and my older brother Jesse invented reality TV before reality TV was a thing with our stuffed animals when we were kids. We have over 50 of them with names, characteristics & stories. Decades later we still talk in our animal voices and relive them.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook: Encompassed by Dreams, Instagram: @encompassedbydreams & Website: http://www.encompassedbydreams.com/

What is the name of your business/organization?
Encompassed by Dreams

Why did you get into/start this business?
At 6 years old I had clear dreams where I saw, heard and experienced dreams of the night like they were real life. Growing up I was homeschooled in this and I wanted to continue teaching about this passion to others as an adult.

What is the goal of your business?
To provide dream interpretation to spiritual clients in an inspiring environment with a knowledgeable voice, helping them feel safe and infused with clarity.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Dealing with culture that is largely obsessed with the world of social media, politics & entertainment but sees dream interpretation and the spiritual world as a cheap trick that isn't valuable to them. Being intense can be a tough road to walk on.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?

I wouldn't change anything. To change what I have gone through and have experienced would be like trying to go back from escaping the Matrix. I have chosen the red pill.

What do you always find yourself saying?
What is this a picture of? If what was happening to you today were a dream what is this moment trying to say to you?

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Always choose character over gifting. You can work on talent and skills to a degree but you can't unlearn bad character. The humble things of the world will confound the wise.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Hans Zimmer. The man is a musical wizard and modern day Mozart and Beethoven of any epic movie soundtrack of our generation. The way he brings music and sound and the orchestra of sound together is quite magnificent. It would be a dream come true to spend time with him.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It is vital to inspire and encourage entrepreneurs on their personal journey and passions in life. How do we know? We could be the answer to years of hard work, preparation and a fulfillment of dreams for business owners!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Living generationally. Because it is part of the nature and character of God. Living generationally in a world that is largely preaching narcissim and individualism.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Michelle Behr. She was one of the first photographers I ever did a photoshoot with in Kelowna. She has tirelessly worked in the wedding photography and photography industry for several years in Kelowna. She is a bright light, kind and creative genius!

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Michelle Behr
