Meet Caroline. Caroline was born and raised here in Kelowna! She enjoys hiking the beautiful trails here in Kelowna with her friends, taking her pup for a walk for some alone time, and spending some quality time with her husband.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

I was born in Kelowna, moved out east for a while and ventured back again. In all, I have lived in Kelowna for 36 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband. We work long days and when we have time to take a break it's just the best.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I love to see what I can find at Man + Woman. I find really great things there and the staff are so nice.

Describe yourself in one word.
Friendly

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy - I've never been there and anyone I know who has been raves about its beauty, the kind people, and the cuisine. It sounds like a wonderful vacation to me so it's on my bucket list!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?

I love to hike up Knox Mountain with friends.  It's close enough to run out and get a nice visit and some exercise in all at once.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Driving to work in a severe snowstorm in rush hour but so low on fuel, I had to stop. I drove away with my broken antenna swinging (previous car wash mishap), gas door open, the cap on the roof, wondering why people were pointing at my car. *sigh*

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
My kids have always been my motivation and inspiration to work hard, be good to those around me, and be thankful. They're grown up now and often inspire me to keep working on improving and learning.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Riding around on my new yellow banana seat bike my parents gave me for my 8th birthday!  Dream come true, lol.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?

Fundraising through our business for Mamas for Mamas, a great local charity that helps moms in Kelowna.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
That basic necessities would be available for all people.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I love to take my dog for a walk in North Glenmore.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
More green space such as public beach access, parks and baseball diamonds - activities for kids and adults alike.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
It has many beautiful outdoor activities year-round. We can literally ski, golf and go for a paddle all in one day!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

Try pasta in Italy, travel far and wide in an RV, and sit front row at a John Mayer concert <3

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I know how to drive a tractor.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram

What is the name of your business/organization?
Scenic Road Cider Co. and Sebastian Acres

Why did you get into/start this business?

My husband and I bought an orchard and were looking for new ways to utilize our fruit.  We got to talking with the couple we were leasing an orchard from, took a cidermaking course, and got to work!

What is the goal of your business?
To make a wonderful cider out of our own fruit that the public can enjoy.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
My shy nature my dislike of confrontation.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I wouldn't change a thing.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"No problem."

Tell us your best piece of life advice.

As Wayne Gretzky once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I would love to spend a day with Michele Obama.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
We are all part of one community and need to support each other.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My kids are bar none my proudest accomplishment.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!

Rita Sipanzyk who, since retiring, is very active volunteering in the community!

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
