Meet Chris! Chris is originally from Prince Rupert and has called Kelowna home on and off since 2003!

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

I am born in Prince Rupert, B.C where the sun does not shine. I moved to Kelowna 2003 and have been here back and forth ever since.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
There are a few great options, it is between my life partner and best friend Jessica Lake and my Grand Mother who raised me as a child. They are both very similar in qualities Honest, loyal, Respectful, compassionate and truly generous to others.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Formosa Cafe

Describe yourself in one word.
Self-Driven

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Bali

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Biking, hiking and hitting up the basketball court.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Walking into a street pole while texting on the phone.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

The most inspiring thing is to see my grandmother survive after a near death experience. She was in comma with lung failure 10+ years ago and now she still living enjoying the views of Sydney, Victoria each and everyday.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Family time and camping with my parents, brothers and grandmother. During one of our camping trips, I was 8 years old and I ran down to the beach area, where I saw a pond full of humpback fish spawning. I had no clue and jumped in the pond and started grabbing the fish by my hand and throwing them on the beach, until my dad ran down and said "leave the fish, those are not good to eat" I felt bad and grabbed the fish and put them back in the pond to fishing their spawning, with a look of disappointment.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I truly believe in giving back to the community in any way possible. I am advantageous basketball junkie, who enjoys teaching kids, passing on knowledge and running kids camps. This year I was part of a local charity that organized basketball camps for children in the filipino community.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
The homeless crisis, where we need to give them resources, programs, facilities for them to progress.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I do enjoy a casual bike ride downtown to the beach and along Abbott Street.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
The obvious in my eyes is the homeless community that has increased in the city of Kelowna. Since I have moved to kelowna in 2003, their has been a dramatic increase in numbers and crimes in the kelowna area. I truly believe, we as a community need to create a greater awareness of this situation and develop short-term and long-term housing placements, to have the resources for a greater stability.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The community, diversity and mixed land use.
