Meet Danielle! She's a born and raised Kelowna gal and a self-declared design junkie!

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
Born and raised in Kelowna.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with?
I am fortunate to have lots of fantastic people in my life. I love them all, as they all play such an important part in many areas of my life.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Funktional, because it is full of one-of-a-kind finds.

Describe yourself in one word.
Determined.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Denmark. Because it intrigues me.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Spin class at Pace Spin Studio.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
One time I had a full-blown conversation with a stranger, only to find out, as he turned his head, that he was actually on a phone call. He wasn't talking to me at all! I still cringe when I think about it.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
At Gyro beach every summer with my dad and sister. Water, sun, french fries, and rocket pops. It doesn't get better than that!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
That the world would be able to see that, every individual holds unique value.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Bean Scene.

Where would you like to see a positive change in Kelowna and why?
Free parking for hospital workers. They are coming to work every day to serve our city and to ensure the health of the people that live in it. They should not have to fit a daily bill to do so.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The lake, the wine, the food and the people.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Serve a charity overseas.
2. Flip a house.
3. A trip to Europe with friends.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
That design is actually my second career. I worked 10 years in nursing, 5 of them at KGH.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram: @dk_modern & @ullainteriors

What is the name of your business/organization?
Ulla Interiors. Exclusive to DK Modern.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I have always been a total design junkie. I would constantly get asked by people to style their weddings and homes. I eventually realized that it didn't have to just be a hobby. I went back to school and Ulla Interiors was born.

What is the goal of your business?
To create, one-of-a-kind spaces for clients that reflect who they are and, ultimately, feel like home to them.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
The balancing act between work and life.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I would do it the same.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Juje it! Translation: Make it fancy, or elevate it.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Walk through the hard stuff, to get to the good stuff.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Your purchase is supporting somebody that has invested countless time, dollars and effort to grow their own business and dreams.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jasmine Roth.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Gaining a diploma in design (while raising three daughters, being a wife, and working almost full time).

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Strong Roots Flooring. They have a stand up business, lessening the carbon footprint of the flooring world, with stand out service.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Rick & Shannon Johnstone from Strong Roots Flooring
