In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Diandra Beggs.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I grew up in Summerland and relocated to Kelowna after high school to attend the business program at Okanagan College. I have lived here on and off with some time spent in Vancouver as well as some travelling overseas.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My two year old niece, Eleanor. She’s a joy to be around and is ever-changing. It’s amazing to be an aunty.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I’ve wanted to visit Croatia for a few years now. I’d love to explore the beautiful beaches, national parks and indulge in their amazing food and wine.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I can’t say I have a specific store to call my favourite. I love the energy of the downtown area in general and enjoy popping by Funktional for a great gift, Bia Bora or Blonde for the perfect outfit and Lakehouse or Alchemy for the latest in home décor inspiration.

What is your favourite activity?
One of my top summer activities is certainly cruising around town on my bike.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Tacos.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Do people ever really share the MOST embarrassing thing that has happen to them in this field? I am tempted but I am learning, slowly that I could share a little less at times.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My fondest memories are of boating and camping trips with family and friends.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
JDRF is a cause that is close to my heart and hearts of my family. My first cousin was diagnosed with diabetes as a young girl. We frequently attend the JDRF walk and donate to the JDRF galas in hopes of raising enough money to finding a cure. We are getting closer!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would love to see our judgmental society be more accepting and understanding. Society has trained us to be comfortable with following trends and to fear what’s different or not understood resulting in judgment of ourselves and others. A judgmental society is not productive.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
It has everything to offer; hot summers, good restaurants, a great downtown vibe, a beautiful lake and hiking trails and ski hills within a short distance.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Travel Europe.
2. Have a family.
3. Retire early.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I attended the Francophone program from kindergarten to grade 12 and graduated with a French and English diploma.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
Instagram

What is the name of your business/organization?
Beyoutiful Beauty Artists,

Why did you get into/start this business?
I have always been passionate about hair and makeup. After I completed my diploma at Blanche Macdonald in 2009, I knew I wasn’t interested in working in a salon environment but I knew, having had a terrible experience for my sister’s wedding, that there was a need for professional and reliable mobile services in the Okanagan. I spent the following summer doing hair and makeup for a number of weddings in the Summerland area and eventually teamed up with a friend who had become a makeup artist and also recognized the demand. She started Beyoutiful and I headed the hair styling side of things and eventually took over the company last year.

Give someone a shout out that deserves it!
Alana Richelle Photography! My talented sister, Alana, relocated from Montreal a couple of years ago after spending nearly a decade in Montreal as a photographer and designer. She has done so well establishing herself in our community and she absolutely deserves a shout out! Follow her on Instagram
