Where are you from and how long have you lived in Penticton?

San Antonio, Texas originally...in Penticton 22 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband Ross, he keeps me grounded and rocks my world!

What is your favourite local store in Penticton and why?
Tony's meats - the smell, the spices, and the great service.

Describe yourself in one word.
Eclectic.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Isla Mujeres

What is your favourite activity in Penticton?
Anything artistic, fine, performing (particularly theatre) visual.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
As an actor for 60+ years, there have been many onstage!

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Working on Barack Obama's 2012 re-election campaign at the Democratic party office in Fresno, California. The homogeneous mix of supporters working there was truly inspiring. All ages, sexes, races, religions, sexual orientations, working together in harmony with one common cause! I came away each day marveling at how well everyone worked together and wondering why the whole world couldn't do that!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Time spent on the family pecan orchard and cattle farm on the banks of the lazy Medina River outside my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Summers floating on the river until we realized it was infested with water moccasins!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?

Support a number of charities, served as treasurer of the BC Choral Federation for 37 years, served on the Board of the OSO, and the Summerland Ornamental Gardens. I have worked with every theatre company in the South Okanagan. Founding member of the very successful Many Hats Theatre Company in the Cannery Trade Centre.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Income inequality.

Where would you sneak away to in Penticton to spend some time alone?
The Penticton Rose Carden.

Where would you like to see positive change in Penticton and why?
I would love some sort of viable solution to homeless problems.

What do you think makes Penticton great?
The people!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Leave a positive mark on the world and my community
Travel more!
Winter in Isla Mujeres, Summer in Ireland

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I was Paul the 'Canadian Tire Guy' in a series of ads back in the 1990s and I have my degree in Library Science.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
I'm all over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Ed Schneider and Associates-The Okanagan Tax Guys

<who> Photo Credit: Ed Schneider
Why did you get into/start this business?

40 years experience in Canadian Income Tax and a desire to share my knowledge to help people.

What is the goal of your business?
Keep/get people out of tax trouble!

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Overextending myself! Ross helps with that by telling me 'no'.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Music and Theatre....lots more of both!

What do you always find yourself saying?
Gee, I wonder how that works?

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
From my English Lit Prof in University: "Anticipation and expectation are usually greater than realization. In other words, it won't be as bad or good as you think it will be."

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Barrack Obama. After his experience as POTUS and everything he saw during that period and since. I'd love a candid 'off the record' conversation about the real dirt on world leaders, US politicians, business people, AND his successor!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Our local businesses are the lifeblood of our community, particularly the farmers.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
I'd have to say two things: The numbers of folks I've helped with big tax problems and the success of Many Hats Theatre Company.
