Meet Grant Sheridan. He's from Grande Prairie, Alberta and has been in Kelowna for 24 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
There are many, but if I had to narrow it down to just one person, I would say, my dad, Dale Sheridan. Even though we have lived in different cities and provinces for many years, he has always been my ‘go to’ person and has inspired me in his own way to be ambitious, always work hard, and be down to earth.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
This is an odd one but I would say Princess Auto. I seem to find myself having more and more reason to be there and with so many items I seem to be able to always find all the little things I want.

Describe yourself in one word.
Ambitious.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Australia. It is somewhere I have always wanted to go and I have friends who live there.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
All our outdoor activities. We live in a great place for outdoor recreation.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Following four straight meetings in public places, a lady followed me out of a coffee shop, caught up to me, and proceeded to let me know that the entire back side of my dress pants were ripped. In hindsight, I concluded that the rip happened before all my meetings.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
After completion of university and moving to Kelowna, my first manager in the financial planning business sarcastically wished me ‘good luck’ after I decided to change firms.  He proceeded to tell me that this business wasn’t for me and that I couldn’t handle it, that was 24 years ago!  I wonder if he is still in the business? Thanks for the inspiration!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Summertime at the lake with family and friends. From childhood to teenage years, the memories of being at the lake always remain a highlight.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I spend most of my volunteer time in hockey in various capacities.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Eliminate all the negative events and subsequent news stories that we wake up to almost every day.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
The lake.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Kelowna continues to grow, yet remains one of the best places to live, work, and grow as an individual and family.  I would like to see Kelowna continue to grow but in a sustainable manner that allows our kids to grow up here, and remain here in years to come with the same opportunities for their families.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Hands down, the weather and all the outdoor activities that are at our fingertips.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Travel to Thailand
2. Race a NASCAR
3. Stay healthy!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I do not like winter and I do like to work with heavy equipment at the lake.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook and Twitter.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Peacock Sheridan Group and Kelowna Chiefs Junior Hockey Club

Why did you get into/start this business?
In high school, I felt that if I could help successful people with their money then I should be able to learn from them how to become successful, and hopefully be able to handle my own finances!

What is the goal of your business?
The goal of our planning business to be one top planning firms measured by how many people we can help successfully reach their financial goals. The goal of the hockey business is to provide another competitive option for kids to play hockey, while they live in Kelowna and work or go to school.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or life?
Without a doubt, my biggest struggle has been creating work-life balance as there is not enough time in the day and year to accomplish everything that I choose to be involved in, and feel that I can have an impact on.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I have no regrets and I am extremely happy where we are as a family, a business, and member of this community.  We are so fortunate to date that I do not believe in looking back, but only ahead.

What do you always find yourself saying?
'Don’t say I can’t'

Tell us your best piece of life advice
Be who you want to be, and where you want to be. The world is a much smaller place now with lots of opportunities.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
That is a tough one. I think there are several people depending on the context of the day, however, if I had to pick one out of interest I think it would be Wayne Gretzky.  As a longtime fan, it would be great to discuss the evolution of hockey, his business philosophy around hockey, and all the behind the scenes scenarios that have affected him, his family, and the game as we know it today.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I believe we should do business with those that do business with us. We have lots of great people and businesses here in the Okanagan and I think it is important that we support each other.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Moving to the city of my choice, Kelowna, working very hard to stay here, and enjoying each year as much or more than the year before.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
My great clients, staff, and business partners all deserve a shout out. They have all put up with me over the years and have all been loyal supporters and major contributors to what I think is an unbelievable life for myself and my family. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by so many great people.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Kevin Edgecombe. Kevin is a great friend, excellent builder and business owner, and a huge supporter of our community. I admire his unbelievable work ethic, and his passion for family, business, and making the world a better place.

Some general comments I would like to share are:
We are in a day and age where there are so many negative events, however, we are all very fortunate and have the ability to make things better for ourselves and everyone around us.  Please take those opportunities, be who you want to be, and continue to make things around you healthier and happier!
