Meet Hans! Hans is originally from Germany and has been living in Kelowna for 30 years. He enjoys biking on the many scenic trails here in the Okanagan and spending some quality time with his wife and children.


Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?    
I was born in Germany. I moved to Oyama 45 years ago. After 5 years at UBC, I moved back to Kelowna in 1989.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife...need you ask?

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Lakeview Market. Great people.

Describe yourself in one word.    
Caring

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
San Diego. That's where my oldest daughter is right now.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?    
Biking around the many bicycle paths.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Blushing at the most inopportune times.


What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?    

Having children.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Pancakes made by my Oma.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I have coached my children in different sports and have volunteered on business councils.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?    
Less war, more peace.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Paul's Tomb

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?    
Get the homeless problem under control.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Four-season natural playground.


What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Machu Picchu
Grand-children
Great-grand-children

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I was born left-handed, but converted by the powers that be.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Bohemian Cafe & Catering Co.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I fell in love with the industry and needed to start something of my own because Kelowna didn't have many career opportunities back in 1990.

What is the goal of your business?
To give people a great place to feed their bodies and spirits.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?    
Making sure the people in my sphere are looked after well.


If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I think I would pick a different industry, but I'm happy with what I've achieved and the place I've come to.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"When you find work you like, you never have to work a day in your life."

Be yourself.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Barrack Obama

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
It feels good and makes for a stronger community.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My family.
