In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses, and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Jessica Levy.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I'm from the Okanagan, I grew up in Cherryville and moved to Kelowna in 1999.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My son, Graesyn, he is the love of my life, my inspiration behind what I do and my daily motivator. We learn so much from our children.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Somewhere hot and tropical, I love the heat!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Glow Juicery. The product they produce there is amazing and so is the owner and staff.

What is your favourite activity?
Besides fitness? Paddleboarding in the summer is pretty awesome.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Burger for sure. BBQ burgers are hard to beat.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Embarrassing things happen to me all the time. Usually every fitness class I come out with a word that is made up by accident. Once I was trying to say 'shoulders apart' and somehow it came out as 'shart'. At least I can make my class laugh.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Being voted Gold for Best of Kelowna 2016 and winning both a Gold and Silver awards for Best of Kelowna 2017.  it's very inspiring that the community supports me in my business!

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Growing up in a small town and living on an acreage. We learned to explore and be creative as children playing outdoors rather than on iPads and video games inside.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I founded the 'April Project' where we raised money from our bootcamps for families that had sick children. You can find the April Project on Facebook for more info.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
For everyone to be kinder. This would change so much if people loved and helped more. I think that the effect of kindness trumps the opposite.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Eating the food here and drinking our local wine! So many amazing wineries, we are so lucky.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
If the weather is nice, I like to go on any of the hiking trails and if not, then Blenz coffee shop.

What do you think makes Kelowna great? We have so much to offer here.
Our town is beautiful and the people here are part of what makes it so great.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list, but my next to-dos are to go to Disney Land with my son, travel to a tropical island and do yoga on the beach and get married.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I'm super clumsy. I was never good at sports growing up and I'm still not. I think people presume that if you are athletic then you must have been your entire life and good at sports. The entire opposite is true for me

What is the name of your business/organization?
Body Connection Fitness.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I became a single parent and wanted to be in the fitness industry. I found a niche in working with new moms where I could work while my son was in daycare.

What is the goal of your business?
To empower women and give them strength both physically and mentally.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Becoming a single parent and starting my business at the same time. In the end, this also became my biggest motivation.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
The same, I don’t live with regrets. Life is too short to dwell on the past so we should try and learn from it and become a stronger individual because of it.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I feel like happiness can be a choice, we can choose to be happy and find the positive in situations or we can be swallowed up by negativity. I choose happiness.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I am not the kind of person to get starstruck so I choose my son.  Spending time with him is worth every minute I can get.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Supporting local business is what helps a community to thrive!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a mom! Best gift and accomplishment by far.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Kelly Mouillierat, he is super hard-working, is always available to give a helping-hand to those that need it, has a successful new business (CIC CIC Canadian Image Customs) and he is an amazing father.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
Kelly Mouillierat, founder of CIC Canadian Image Customs.
