What is your name?
John Kot.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan then lived in Edmonton for 18 years. Then I moved to Kelowna and have been here for seven years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife, Trina. She is my high school sweetheart and still my best friend. We just celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
We do a big family trip every year with all the children and spouses. This year we are going to Hawaii, but there is too many places to choose from!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I like Summerhill Pyramid Winery, I stop there in the morning to pick up my daily coffee on the way to work. We enjoy the sustainable food aspect of their menu and the view is amazing.

What is your favourite activity?
I have many hobbies, and love all sports, especially hockey and golf. Lately my favourite activity is spending time with my little guy who is 8-years-old, Logan, and my wife, Trina.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
I love pizza.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I am a terrible speller/spellchecker and I embarrass myself daily.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
To see my adult children grow up and watch them become successful in their own life experiences.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I loved being on my family farm in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Especially during harvest time with my Dad, Uncle, and Grandfather.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
We support many various charities through our business and always try and find ways to give back to the community. Our biggest contribution is to the Kelowna General Hospital every year that goes specifically to the Heart and Surgical Centre.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would change for the world to be more slow-paced and to focus on the wonderful country and blessings we have.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Walking, hiking and biking the Mission Creek path with Logan.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
My own deck or backyard. Put on some music and just chill.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Continue with more organic food options. Healthy living is so important.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The weather combined with the most beautiful scenery and setting.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Meet Wayne Gretzky and have a beer with him.
2. Spend a winter in Europe.
3. Attend the Super Bowl with my sons.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a fear of heights!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
I’m not on social media personally, but I’m pretty dialed into my phone. It’s Trina’s pet peeve!

What is the name of your business/organization?
Kelowna Hyundai, Buy Direct Truck Centre, Maple Ridge Hyundai and Penticton Nissan

Why did you get into/start this business?
I’ve always enjoyed the rush of selling someone a car and seeing their enjoyment of a big purchase in their life. I still get excited going to work every day and I love the pace of the car business.

What is the goal of your business?
To be the most respected dealership in the business by our customer service delivery.

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
To find a healthy life/work balance. I’ve been a habitual workaholic for my entire life and I’m attempting to scale back.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Life is a journey, every regret has made me better.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I tend to call people 'buds' too much!

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Warren Buffet, experience is expensive.
