Meet Jonas! Jonas is originally from Williams Lake and has been living here in Kelowna for nine years now. He enjoys relaxing at the beach, sampling all the incredible wines in the Okanagan, and spending some quality time with his wife and two daughters. 


Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?    
Williams Lake, been in Kelowna for 9 years, moved here to start Solartech Films.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife Mandy. She tolerates and understands me. Our Sunday lunches are the best. We lead busy lives so we catch up like old friends even though we live under one roof. Seeing her laugh cracks me up.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Cask and Barrel. Selection is second to none. I can always find what I'm after.

Describe yourself in one word.    
Scattered.


If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Perth, Australia to visit my little nephew.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?    
Beach days!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Thought pancakes were called panny-cakes until I was 12. Not even my mom corrected me.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?    
Watching my daughters come into the world. My purposes for getting up in the morning completely shifted, my goals changed and my world expanded.


Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My parents teaching me to ride a bike in the empty Overwaitea parking lot after dinner. Back then everything closed early.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
All of our kids' clothes and toys are donated to Mama's for Mama's. Our business is an annual sponsor of the Special Olympics.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?    
Child Hunger

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Kalamoir Beach.


Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?    
The local drug epidemic. Everytime I see a junkie, I see my own daughters, nieces and nephews and how vulnerable they can be.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Hands downs the water, weather, wine and Curlew Drive.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Camp along the Oregon Coast
Learn to downhill mountain bike
Make a career change

I won't get into an unmade bed.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Solartech Films

Why did you get into/start this business?
I always wanted to own a business. They said, "stick to what you know". And I know this industry inside out.

What is the goal of your business?
To provide a the highest quality product and service possible.


What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?    
Life balance. After all these years I still can't figure it out.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I wouldn't change a thing. I'm proud of the business we've built and although it hasn't always been easy I will forever be grateful.

What do you always find yourself saying?
"What's the matter with people!"

Tell us your best piece of life advice.    
"Remember when you wished for what you have now? Appreciate it, the bottom could fall out at any time."


If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Joe Rogan.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because locals support me.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Our 2 daugthers, I admire them everyday.
