Meet Joshua! Joshua is originally from London, Ontario and has been living here in Kelowna for about one year. On his free time, he enjoys getting in a good workout at Kelowna Crossfit and spending some quality time with his wife, Hannah.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
Originally from London, Ontario. I've been in Kelowna for just over a year now.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife, Hannah. She is lovely, super fun, we really enjoy activities, sports, and doing life together!

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Parlour Icecream. High quality and diversity of flavours as well as friendly owner and staff!

Describe yourself in one word.
Adventurous

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Bora Bora. I once saw a picture of this magical place and immediately decided I would be going to visit and eventually host leadership and health retreats there.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love working out at Kelowna Crossfit.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
When I was 12, I once got up out of bed and walked past my parents. They thought I was just going to get some water, but they soon heard the sound of water on metal. They turned around and found me peeing in the dryer! Sleepwalking problems...

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I believe that Jesus is my rock and my salvation. He took my place before God so that I could be freed from any guilt, shame, or suffering as a result of the dumb things I sometimes find myself doing. I think we have to change our minds from viewing the things He taught as tasks or demands or laws, but instead realizing that they're a really great way to live a peaceable, loving life of legacy(every leadership and personal development book ever written borrows a lot of His principles) while giving glory to our Creator. As a result of this inspiration of what has been done for me, I want to serve, love and give to others more and more abundantly.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Just one?! Fishing trips with my dad and my brother. Snowboarding trips with a couple of buddies throughout high school. Sporting activities of all kinds...

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I love volunteering at my church, Hope Bible Church (meets at Orchard Park Theatre at 9:30 Sundays). My buddy, Zac Gauthier, and I have been doing polar dips in Okanagan Lake every week this year. Last weekend we held a fundraiser for the homeless here in Kelowna as well as some abroad and tried to see how long we could stay in for. Ten minutes in ice-cold water is definitely a new experience for me!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If everyone could come to a saving knowledge and faith in Jesus that would be awesome! I think the world we be a much more positive place!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Take a run to Paul's Tomb and go for a swim!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Homelessness and drug trade here in our city. From what I've seen there is a lot of attention on this, as it deserves, but I would like to figure out more ways of caring and loving on people enough that they don't end up on the street or have drug addiction problems in the first place.
High school programs? University awareness? More alternatives to opioids, prescription pain medications, and other addictive "gateway" substances.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
I love where we are. An active culture, mountains all around us, wineries, coffee shops, great restaurants, and lakes to enjoy!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1.) Bora Bora
2.) Thailand
3.) Have a rocking family

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I used to be a nationally ranked chess player in elementary/high school.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Dr Joshua Korten on Facebook; @kelownaposturedoc on Insta!

What is the name of your business/organization?
Aligned Chiropractic

Why did you get into/start this business?
I used to have headaches 2-3x/week. I went to a chiro when I was 14. He took an Xray of my neck and said they could be because of a misalignment at the top. I started getting adjusted and haven't had a headache since! Now it's my job to help others!

What is the goal of your business?
Empower people to live up to their potential. Enhance the health of the people in Kelowna and challenge their thinking of WHY it is everyone's responsibility to take care of themselves and BE healthy.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Managing time. There are tons of things asking for our time and attention. Figuring out and maintaining the focus on things that are really important is the struggle.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I love life. I think each of us has things where we realize, "Oops, could have done that differently". However, that's where the learning aspect comes in. Learn from mistakes, get better, and keep pushing forward.

What do you always find yourself saying?
Power's ON! My patients hear me saying this all the time. When you get adjusted you are connecting the brain(organ with all the power) with the body much better. Muscles, ligaments, organs---everything!

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Go above and beyond in kindness and love for other people. Sometimes people can be annoying, frustrating, or just plain dumb---but I know I can be too! You never know where someone is at or what they're going through.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I get to spend each day with my wife, guess I lucked out on that one! Someone I don't know---->John Piper

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Support people in our community. As my wife knows, I avoid certain chain or big box stores like the plague. I think since I'm in the healthcare field, every day I see the corruption that billions of dollars and corporate profits can do.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Getting married. Hannah and I had a literal "other side of the world" relationship for 2 years. Lots of fun and laughs, but also ups and downs. Fight for what you know is right- don't give up!

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Zac Gauthier- undoubtedly the Okanagan's best drummer. Rockstar bro, fellow gym rat, and loving husband/father. Quite the real deal kind of dude who says things how they are but also quite encouraging and respectful.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
