What is your name?
Kelly Sherman.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Terrace, raised in Williams Lake and have lived in Kelowna since 2004.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My wife Tracy. We just had a getaway for our 20th Anniversary, which was excellent.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Santorini Greece. Tracy I got married there at Perissa Beach.
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Chapters is the store I visit most frequently. Usually to buy another 'boring business book' according to my two boys.
What is your favourite activity?
Playing and coaching soccer.
If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Tropical chicken pizza from Boston Pizza.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
On a very turbulent day I got sick in a helicopter while doing aircalls. I left the GPS on as we landed in a nearby opening in the remote forest. The spiral GPS line and pictures of the event were shown to all at a staff Christmas party.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
In my youth I was inspired by Rick Hanson who graduated from Columneetza Secondary School a decade before I did.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Playing sports with my two bothers and sister. We played soccer, hockey, baseball, tennis and pretty much every other sport from time to time. For us it was pretty much all games, all the time.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I coach youth soccer and sit on the Kelowna United Board and the Central Okanagan Youth Soccer Board. Last season I coached the Junior Heat U13 Boys who had 3-5 outings a week and closed off the season with a trip to Southampton, England in August. The new season is about to begin and I am now coaching the U17 Kelowna United Boys.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Kim Jong Un and Trump would both be replaced by real leaders.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Skiing at Big White.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
A motorbike ride to no specific destination.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
A better conference center would be good.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The weather, lake, people, Big White and they did a great job revitalizing downtown.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Go on a safari in Africa
2. Go to a World Cup
3. Go to the Moon. Hopefully I can stay healthy enough and have the financial flexibility for this to be an option when technology makes this a reality.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have a private pilot license and 1/5th ownership in a small plane.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Ecora Engineering & Resource Group.
Why did you get into/start this business?
The company I was working with went down a path that didn't work for me. Myself and three partners started Ecora in 2010.
What is the goal of your business?
To affect positive change in the world by applying our professional services with a healthy balance of economic, environmental and community values.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
The art of balancing family, work and play is a never ending challenge.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I am certainly happy with where I'm at so I don't regret anything on the path that got me here.
What do you always find yourself saying?
'When I was your age'. Saying that to my two boys Gavin, 16 and Kurtus, 13.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Barack Obama. If it was an hour it would be Wayne Gretzky, but a full day with Barack would be very cool.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To strengthen local economy which strengthens the community.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
I am most proud of having a team of nearly 100 exceptional professionals at Ecora.

Dan Turner. He has put 20 years of volunteer time to youth soccer in many roles including coaching, being included with the Kelowna United Board, COYSA Board and now Chairs Kelowna United.

Some general comments I would like to share are:
Each game I coached last year my game sheet would have a quote for the boys. One that seemed to resonate well with the boys was:
"If you convince yourself of your limitations you get to keep them".
Another quote I enjoy is:
"Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon!"
