Meet Kyle, he grew up in Summerland but has been living in Kelowna for the past five years. Kyle is a comedian, you have probably heard his set at Dakoda's Sports Bar and Grill, and if you haven't, you can catch him there this weekend.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I don't know if I could narrow it down to one person, but I love hanging out with all of the comics in the Kelowna scene. We are all just a bunch of weird people trying too hard to make each other laugh.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I like Doja. A few of my friends work there and it just seems like a really cool environment and it'll be interesting to see how it grows over time.

Describe yourself in one word.
Cringe-man

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Summerland. I'd go to my parent's house, to do my laundry.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
There's a lot of great shows at Fernando's.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
One time, when I was first starting comedy, I was on a date and while I was walking down the road a guy recognized me and yelled out, "Hey! You're that awkward-masturbating guy!"

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
When I went to JFL Northwest this year it was extremely inspiring to see all of the comics at the festival be so, so funny. It's always great to see a bunch of people that are so great to motivate yourself to become better.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
When I was young I got chicken pox and stayed at my Grandma's house for a full week. Every day I just watched cartoons with my Grandma's dog; the grossest pug ever named "Destiny". Destiny had diabetes. Maybe this memory isn't my favourite but it really stands out.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
At Dakoda's Comedy Lounge I always try to host the "comedy for a cause" shows. They have been happening a few times every month for a while now and it's great to do something you love and donate that time to the people and causes that really deserve it.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Anarchy, baby!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I don't like being alone, this question scares me.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
In the summertime, you can always notice an influx of people in need that may be homeless and/or mentally ill. It'd be nice to see more funding for services for people who may need the help.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Kelowna is a very beautiful city and if you look in the right places there are some amazing people that are creative, interesting, and genuinely nice.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

  1. Become a Kelowna Rocket.
  2. Become a Kelowna Falcon.
  3. Become a dancer of the Liquid Zoo.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I can terribly play the ukulele and in my first-year of university, I played in a "comedy band" with my friend Amar Singh. We played 3 talent shows under the name "Van Halen (not Van Halen)". It was a huge hit!

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram: kylepatan - Facebook: Comedian Kyle Patan - Twitter: Kyle_Patan

What is the name of your business/organization?
Comedian Kyle Patan

Why did you get into/start this business?
I started doing comedy right after high school. I went down to Vancouver and did an open-mic with two of my friends and never stopped after that.

What is the goal of your business?
I really just like to travel around making people laugh.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Probably maintaining a balance between being a dorky funny man and being a serious adult human being.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I wouldn't change a thing!

What do you always find yourself saying?
I find myself saying "baby" a lot. In like an annoying "what's up, BA-BY!" way". Very unbecoming.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
I really am not the guy to give out advice. But it's a comforting thought to think that if you make decisions that you feel at the time are best for you, and you truly have a path you want to follow, things will work out.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
The comedian Rory Scovel. Funniest man on the planet.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
You've got to support your neighbours. It's fundamental to create a strong community. That also applies to supporting local arts events and performances.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
I think when I went to Just For Laughs Northwest in March. It was so fun and it's so great to be in a city like Vancouver in an event like that.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Lately, I have been seeing Shaedan Hawse a lot. He's a great musician and friend and he is so talented. Everyone in Kelowna should look out for a live show of his.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:
BRAYDEN COWIE!

Some general comments I would like to share are:
I'm going on tour! I'll be performing all over northern BC area for 10 days, I think 8 different towns. Look me up on Facebook for when I post the dates!
