Meet Tara! Tara is originally from Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. She enjoys hiking and spending time with her husband and children.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?

Born in Lloydminster Sask. Moved here when I was 12.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband and children. I think there is just not enough time to spend with family nowadays with such busy schedules and these are the people who love me unconditionally

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Can I have a three way tie?? I think I love these all equally for the same reasons; Olive & Elle, Alchemy, Lexi & Lake. I love them because they are all amazing boss ladies who are small business owners with big hearts and exquisite taste.

Describe yourself in one word.
Thoughtful

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Greece. Architecture and the ocean. Best of both worlds.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Hiking

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I swerved to miss a rabbit on the highway, got a flat tire in my rental vehicle and almost missed my interview to get into Design School.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?

I think I get more inspired by seeing people I care about thrive and gain success. I felt extremely inspired by one of my closest friends taking me on the ride of creating and bringing to fruition her Brewery, Rustic Reel.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Living in Manitoba and getting to see the Canadian Shield, as well as taking a ride on the train into the beautiful train station in Winnipeg.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I have to say I don't do a lot to volunteer. With having two small children and my own company I find giving more a challenge. If I volunteer its usually on the soccer field or in the dance theatre.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
The amount of waste there is. You see a lot on job sites and its something that always bothers me.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Sprout

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I think Kelowna is working towards so many positive changes with being proactive with the development of small businesses that are locally owned. I love the heart and soul that is going into the development of establishments throughout Kelowna not just downtown but in a number of areas.
I hope that we can continue to support entrepreneurs in Kelowna that have a vision for business and culture that is shaping our city.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Locally owned businesses and the sense of entrepreneur.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Take my kids to Tofino as much as possible because it's magical

2. Go on a camping trip with just my husband in a Bowler trailer

3. Take singing lessons

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I use to paint

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram, Houzz, Pinterest

What is the name of your business/organization?
Tara Reavie Design

Why did you get into/start this business?
Found a job that suited my creative and pragmatic side

What is the goal of your business?
To be known as a designer who really puts great thought into how my clients use their space and what's important to them and then putting that into the details.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Balancing health & wellness with being a workaholic.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?

Stop worrying about being so busy and create better systems to start with. I have created many now that make things so much easier.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Whether or not I actually follow this is a different story, but try to figure out what works best for you to simplify your world. What makes you successful isn't necessarily going to be the same as what makes someone else in the same position successful.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Other than my family I adore Emma Peter a world-class photographer who just has the best energy. I love the way she interprets her surroundings through a lens and makes everything seem so much bigger than life.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because I'm a local entrepreneur that wants to be supported and it's just good karma;)

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My family.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Terry @ Lexi & Lake. She is just amazing, and so supportive of other women in business. Plus she owns one of my favorite shops.

My choice for the KelownaNow In Focus spotlight is:

Terry @ Lexi & Lake
